running 55:00 [3]

Easy road run in the rain (nothing better than running in the rain on a warm night!). Still fighting post-RockstAR hangover - have no idea how I used to make it out to Death Race the weekend following. Much to do before UTMB!

Met with Bash and Bent for a Humber River Trail run. Great day and great company out in the brutal heat. Thanks guys!

Fun run with Browner through cottage roads (with two swim stops)

paddling 2:47:00 [4]

York River Paddle Challenge. Browner, Mique, Mrs Mique, CP Bruce and I headed up to Bancroft for this 23km race to get some time in the canoe. I paddled my kayak as the odd man out, but all three of our boats got badly schooled by the marathon canoes who blew through the course and unbelievable speeds. Great route on a gorgeous day followed by a trip to Kawartha Dairy - what could be better!

racing 4:24:00 [5]

Creemore 50k. Mixed bag of highs and lows on this one (lows in discovering how badly my fitness has fallen off, highs in finding ways to push through regardless). Jockeyed for 2nd for most of it with another racer, but we both got got dropped with 10k to go by another guy who managed to keep more in the tank. Frustrating to watch him disappear in the distance - wanted to blame the heat, work, and the fact that I haven't been able to do barely any distance training since April, but the simple fact was that I just needed to dig deeper this time. Pleased to have held on to take third though - but more pleased to be able to sit and cool down in the Mad River within three minutes of crossing the line!

Rode two separate bike sections - intensity '4' credited to futile efforts to escape deer flies...
