Running tempo 50:00 [4] 6.5 mi (7:42 / mi) +50m 7:31 / mi

First session with Headington Roadrunners, starting in Marston. Everyone split at the beginning into groups paced on preferred pacing for an hour's run - I went with the 8:15 min/mile group which seemed about perfect, but think we ended up going quite a bit faster. Just about able to chat throughout but it was a bit of a struggle. Was running with a DPhil student originally from Chichester High for Boys - what a small world. Turns out he's aiming for a 3:05 in the Brighton Marathon next April so might be a good training partner.
Enjoyed it so so much, and so thrilled to finally have some term-time running company for the first time in 3 years. Will definitely be doing to Tuesday's intervals sessions too.

Distance approx - tried to work out the route afterwards but not sure I've got it right. Seemed to go Marston, Woodstock rd, Jericho, Beaumont st, Broad st, Longwall st, uni parks, Marston.

Cycling 1:05:00 [4]

First outing to the university gym, which was so great. Seemed to be about 60% women which really put me at ease and felt v different to other gyms I've been in. Cross trainer (20 min), spinning bike (20 min) and normal stationary bike (25 min). Intervals on both bikes, upping and lowering the resistance at minute intervals. Quads turned to jelly. Felt like a really good workout so am happy.

Didn't finish at uni till 6 and the light was beginning to fade - annoying.
Jogged into town from New Marston via uni parks. Then a tempo from the corner of the parks up Banbury road and back down Woodstock rd. Finished at Big Tesco as the pavement was getting too crowded to run properly. Felt like I was working pretty hard but legs felt ok and breathing definitely a lot better than recent times.

Jogged back from the town centre. Watched a boy try to do a wheelie fall ofl the back. Laughed loudly and pointedly until he glared at me.

Getting my bearings in the new neighbourhood. Discovered lovely little Headington Hill park - tiny but feels a lot bigger because of the landscaping. Pottered round there then crossed over the road into south parks. Two laps and then back, admiring the sun setting over my old pal, Boars Hill.
Bought a bike today at vast expense so ready for some proper freedom over the coming weeks.
