Recovery
From school, out through Hill of Banchory to the Crathes gates and back along the railway line. Popped into Morrisons for a snack to have after. Then in Tillybrake for 3 strides along flat, steep climb and flat which was about 70m for each. My cold is reduced to a head cold, so I felt a bit out of it at times, and drowsy but felt better at the end, which is why I did the strides.

Anyone have any advice to rid the remains of a cold completely? I know some would say rest but my opinion is that training won't slow the recovery if it's only symptoms above the neck.

JIRCs - Relay - 1st leg M16 - 1st by 50s
I was pretty exited for this, even with the cold. It was good fun before it had even started, and as we set of on "3" rather than "go" I was hardly nervous at all. Straight down the hill and carried on along the line to 1, got here first and made sure everyone knew it. The out to 2 Nathan, Tim and Andrew joined me up the long climb. Think we all fell at similair moments as the ground was shocking and we were all probably tired from the fast start already. Anyway I got 2 ahead of Nathan, as we had broken off a bit, and then hit 3 pretty well with him. Then out to 4 I had a feeling we'd go wrong. Too low and by the time we got back up Tim and Andrew had caught up.
I put on the chase with Nathan and we were back to the front pretty soon to find Bryn there as well. The pace kept high and I was soon somehow in the lead again. Another small miss because I bush was mapped when there were 4 and I had to look around a bit. Still in the lead though and I opened up a gap running down to 8. Then Nathan caught me as I was a bit shaky into 9 and we got 10 seconds apart.
I should probably say that there were two main groups, and I wasn't sure at all if we were the leading one or not. It turns out the other group had a longer start so were a bit behind us. Tim and Andrew had some different controls so when I thought we had left them, I was shocked to meet them again at 11. Swearing (jokingly) at them I ran ahead, and opened up a gap ahead of Nathan. Punched 13 ahead of Tim and Andrew (whose course joined mine until the end here) and heard Tim curse up on the hill. This motivated me more and I pushed down the hill where there were a few final running controls.
Up the massive hill I thought I was going to be caught for sure. But I gave it my all and drained myself completely to finish in first feeling cold from having no energy left. Nathan followed 50s later and then Andrew, Tim, Callum and Matt (scottish boys in the top 6, great!). Finlay Todd and Chris Galloway maintained the lead to finish 1st, they never even saw another competitor that they were racing.

JIRCS 2013 - Individual - M16 - 1st by 4.5mins
Boom! Back in business.
Wasn't sure what to expect from this. My aim was to take the start easily and then see how it went from there. Also, it looked like there would be a few lucky controls so I was wary of having good attackpoints throughout.
The start was steady, and it shows on the splits that I was a bit down on the rest. Round the paths into 1 and then along the awfully bumby gullies into 2, not real problems and I was feeling comfortable. I saw the hill going to 3 and pushed up it, feeling pretty good. I'd say here was when I began pushing more, and I took a few seconds out of the rest.
I was a bit zig-zaggy coming out of three because of all the pushed and paths but I got onto the track I wanted to get to and found the very technical stream junction without problem. Straight to 5, didn't agree with the map at the time but I was on the wrong side of the hill, wasted a few seconds here. Then sped up again to 6, chasing down Beth and enjoying the amazing terrain whilst somehow (no idea) taking 20s out of everyone...? Down to 7 feeling quite relaxed again. It was pretty well hidden in the grass so 20s slowing down into it.
Very similar leg to 4 going to 8, and a very similar result. Took 20s-30s out of most people and i'm hoping it was out of the hill. Cleanly into 9, overtaking Ruaridh and Harrison, motivating me massively. Short leg into 10 and then it was operation get away from Ruaridh. So the splits were quick on the next few running legs. Happy with 14 where I got around 15 out on everyone. Then careful into 15 as there wasn't much to go by until you got to the green. Overtook Laurence J and it was operation get away from Laurence. He announced that he would try and stick to a Scot, I took the challenge and managed within a few controls. 16 and 17 were okay, and I was just pulling away from Laurence.
Then through spectator again I was with Grey who was visiting it for the first time. I gained maybe a couple of seconds on him over a long stretch but then I was on my own again and nearing the finish. Into 19 was okay, although there were many more bushes in reality. Then my big mistake. 1:15 wasted on a pretty easy control. Panicked when I couldn't see the paths and ran about tring to find the junction, which was no where. Eventually got it with Laurence back on me and we sprinted the last few easy controls (although one was thrown into a pit, which was meant to be a knoll, picked it up when we found it and stabbed it in again) and then quickly into the finish.
Very happy with this run, feel like I'm back in form even through these remains of a cold are still lingering annoyingly, and probably will be even more after this weekend. Ah well.. Won the best junior performance trophy as well as a coaster for all my mugs. Also retained the Jircs title from last year.

From school with Daniel, up and around Corsee. We were running a bit late so we did the last 2km at tempo pretty quickly.

Easy
Back in business (almost). Had a good night's sleep and woke up feeling better, could be the ibuprofen but whatever's happened I'm almost there. Breathing was good, coughing was minimum, and was feeling quite relaxed to push the pace at times.

Seaton Park
Just went ahead and did the orienteering anyway, at a very easy pace. Didn't even take a brikke just to make sure I wouldn't be pushed on. Did a map memory exercise of running to a previously memorized control whilst memorizing the next control after that. Felt a bit dead, but not too bad. Very tight calfs but that's still from the weekend. Would have won (sorry Oleg) but I was hardly even panting at the finish.

shoes: Inov-8 Road-Xtreme 208

10 mins very light drills
10 mins glutic/pelvic exercises, didn't raise the HR at all
Then 11 mins stretching, still stiff from Saturday

Taking the next few days off/maybe easy running before Jircs. I realised I also have some sort of sinus infection from having sore teeth/cheeks when putting impact on the ground. So I know I'll be ether whenever walking down a hill doesn't hurt my face.
