Note

Legs responding well to training increase. Looking at results yesterday I was comparing well with some fairly fast 10km runners, not bad for a season opener. Also been a while since I've felt the flexor issue so going to replace some cycles with runs this week. Still keeping it fairly flat and steady though. JHI's on the weekend is something to think about too.

Afternoon Spin
Headed out for something between 1 and 2 hours depending on feel. Felt great so pushed out to past Dalkeith and up the many climbs there to Gorebridge. Then took a poor route choice and essentially doubled my distance back home thinking it was about the same. Eventually made it to Penicuik and it was getting v. dark. So stopped in Lidl to find some lights, they didn't have any, didn't think this through, so bought 1000cal of bars and sat at the bus stop....

... but apparently letting stranded cyclists on the bus is more dangerous than letting them cycle home on pavements. After eating all the bars I hit the sidewalk and carefully made it home, annoying some peds in the process. Quite an adventure.

Ddin't have a big one planned to avoid any hip niggles being enhanced but ended up feeling good and doing most of the lap with Ali to break in the spikes. A few drills and strides sorted me out well after that.

East District XC League 1 - Striling - Sen/U20 Race - about 27th, 4th Harie, 6th U20
Went into this with no expectations nor nerves, with a option of pulling out at any signs of pain at any point. Headed off ridiculously hard, got dragged on but just felt great. Pretty much in the leading pack for a few hundred metres before I settled down and switched on cruise mode. First lap went great, pretty much held my place save for Patgie coming through me at 2km... shite, what was I doing?! Too late, the banter start had got me.
Still felt awesome going through 3km in about 10min all alone with big gaps in front and behind. Then stomach began to niggle, nightmare... Held my pace and cruised through the second lap with lap 3 in mind. Ewan slowly catching but still a decent gap. Then hit the last lap and stomach was getting extremely sore, gutted. Had to slow right down to a point where my legs felt totally fine. Ewan passed, as did several others. Tempo'd it back with a small sprint finish to nip past a catcher. Finished and almost threw up but legs felt normal!
Not sure what to make of this, would have definitely taken this time/position pre-race so I guess I should be happy. But probably lost close to a minute from stomach pains, totally messed up my eating patterns before this race... Also pacing is an absolute joke, and graph looks comical, but if this is my slowest pace for the season ahead, I'll definitely take that. Hip's good, training starts next week!

U want sum SeƱor Purko??

With Jacob on meadows. He had lots of E, I did not, so a bit of a struggle for an easy run. Still everything looking and feeling good to have a bit of a race tomorrow, should be fun.

Can't decide if my hip flexor is sore or not, will cycle tonight, easy run tomorrow and then decide on the weekend's activities.

Nice one with Jacob around an evening Edinburgh. Down to Crammond, along to Portabello, and back up Innocent. Through some surreal freezing fog at the end, but generally some nice weather! Legs a bit tired after this morning's squats.

Grassy early one with Jacob. Didn't get much shut-eye so was half asleep, which made the freezing fog and amazing sunrise even more surreal. Couldn't decide if hip flexor was sore or just tight from yesterday's stuff, which probably means it was just tight. Finished off at Lidl, flew by!

Morning Hills
Headed off early wanting to push up some long climbs. So out and down Morningside, absolutely freezing, and hit the climb most of the way to the Bypass. This utterly destroyed my legs but was soon on the slog up Hillend. Then final killer was Flotterstone to the end of the top Pantyland reservoir. Good stuff, but had to stop on the final one with a fear of a puncture, would have been awful 3km from a bus stop let alone civilisation...
Turned round at the top and made some speed on the downhill. Then over to Roslin and the old RL there into Loanhead. Back home via KB bonking and falling asleep.... should have had some brekkie.
Broke into the Strava top 15% of most climbs at the start, and top 70 on the reservoir climbs, not bad with no cleats I guess...

39km, 450m.

Prehab
Talked myself out of a swimming/running 2nd session. Decided my flexor wouldn't like it and instead would like some strengthening. Too soon for double days anyway (until Thursday maybe..?).

BOOM painless run, great stuff, although should be expected with 0m of climb... With Euan and 2 Haries. "High" cadence seemed to have worked. Hopefully on the road to training now though.
