Arrochar Alps (backwards)
Slightly tamer version of Olegs birthday plans but still a big one. With the birthday boy, Murray, Duncan plus dad and Alfie for the first top. Weather was overcast and misty but it didn't rain much so maybe just as well that it wasn't sunny as dehydration wouldn't have been fun to wrestle with. Conditions were fairly wet and muddy, but quite runnable, until the last two climbs. Really enjoyable route anyway, some expensive munros in there in terms of the sea level start, minimum climb of 400m per munro and one final 1km/+700m up Ben Vorlich, plus the descent and the long crawl home, to finish off every muscle available.

Beaut morning. New bypass construction almost shutting down all nice passages through to Culter, guess I'm moving back to Edinburgh just in time.

Steady/Tempo
Easy up to the new trails and then changed gear, going at a comfortable tempo for about 15mins. Legs still feel as if they can't get into a consistent rhythm. Guess it might just be from the time off.

Easy 80
Nice and relaxed around various trails. Ramped it up in the middle for a few km but otherwise quite ploddy - legs felt pretty creaky by the end.

Short WU and then some efforts before a short WD. Had a bash at a few segments too but not feeling too explosive. Just beginning to remind my legs what speed work feels like now. Roasting outside.

Baddinsgill Round - 4th

Feeling good off the start and headed off the front with Nixon leading. Kept behind him for the first few hills but he slowly began pulling away. Died a little bit on a climb that was unexpectedly big and got caught by James E and Scotia. Kept with them through half way but I was beginning to fade. The endless boggy underfoot was getting the better of my form and there was no way I could keep the fast start going much more. Also got a stitch at this point so just faced the bonk head on and watched on as Scott and Nixon flew out of site whilst James struggled a bit at a minute ahead.

Was ready to finish but then a gnarly final climb followed by a really bad route round the last ridge through deep grass and moss defeated me and I lost a lot of time through stumbling. All hope of taking Espie was gone and a fast finishing Oleg nearly took me on the final few mins. 4mins off Scott in the end. Good seeing orienteers domimating the field, Baddinsgill didnt know what hit it. Nice race, well organised and very terrainy with some interesting routechoice involved. Good way to end an enjoyable week.
