Long Hilly

Long race seemed very tough and after finishing the relay I was somewhat glad I didn't have to do it (although quite jealous nevertheless). So absolutely ruined myself by doing this instead. That being said, it was an epic route and very enjoyable until the last half hour where I began to essentially hallucinate all the food I was craving and my joints became quite sore.

With Will, Kris, Peter, Charlotte, Shminty and half of Ralph Street. Up onto "Hag's teeth" ridge above Lugano and along some absolutely beautiful beech tree forests on the top before a long descent back when things began to turn sour. Should have taken food and otherwise relied on various crucial water fountains en route for hydration. Very nice vest weather, not too sunny which was probably a good thing. Finished at the arena for the end of the long race, drank about 3l of various things and ate a lot of good food.

Easy with Cherry into Italy again, bumped into Will at the end too. Cherry made me laugh so hard I got a stitch.

EOC Relay - 2nd Leg, GBR 2
Another mixed experience, overall poor but positives to take out too.

+ Fitness felt good today, warm up went well despite hot weather and didn't feel inhibited as I often do at big champs races.

- Running on my own was unexpected, and I made several mistakes to the first few having been ready to be in a position of running with other people. One huge hash of a control going on a dodgy compass kicked me back into gear, but maybe have lost up to 3mins from mistakes or dodgy RC.

+ Once I began running with other people it went really well. I caught Regborn going at 90% (before tomorrow) and then he began to push the pace. I raced him to the end, and at least he claimed he couldn't of pushed harder when we were pushing, not sure what that means but it sounds good to me.

- Despite planning the long leg perfectly the day before, I took a bad RC, partially due to the train I was in but also didn't do enough planning in advance.

+ Had I been in the front pack I'm confident I would have kept the pace and made fewer mistakes. The good sections of 10mila shows this too. I'm in good physical shape and therefore good relay shape which bodes well for the rest of the season.

++++++ Also overtook the Danish 2nd team at one point by getting some sick air off a MTB jump. That was cool.

Took it very chilled today, the Ralph technique. Just a short jog into Italy, tempted to swim the channel into Switzerland but water looked a bit cold and there were probably snipers watching.

WU
Absolutely decked it in my first step onto the warm up map and opened up my knee after a very lazy style fall. This wasn't a good omen. Also feeling considerably tired and sore in my back.

EOC Middle Final - 45th...

Feeling weird on the start line. Had a lot of coffee by accident in the morning and think this both dehydrated and overstimulated me. But also no strength in the legs by the time I got to 2 and just struggling to move in the fairly harsh terrain. Missed 4 rather unfortunately, had I seen Soren my two minute man, it may have been a very different race. I will have almost definitely still hit the wall though, and instead I didn't this with Antonio.

Slowed down after we split on the long leg, a wasp stung me and I rejected the notion of climbing behind Antonio the same way a small child doesn't want to go to school every morning. So stupid immature route and any chance of sneaking past the stack of people at 42mins vanished. But also assumed to this pack to be at 38mins so gave up at the far end of the last loop when I should have really pushed to the end... (sad face)

Ah well. Good orienteering save for a few RCs and circles, and making fewer mistakes than many others. So maybe can be okay for Saturday once my back unknots, caffeine filters out, and legs recover.

EOC Middle Qualifier - Men's B - 12th (17 to qualify) +3mins

Very satisfied, a few little slips/slow routes and one panic where the SI unit wasn't where I expected it do be, but otherwise running strong, safely and controlled given the absolutely mental area. Really not used to that kind of orienteering.

Had a funny moment at prestart where I brought the wrong SI too, thankfully the officials were forgiving and I forgot about it by the -2 box. Also forgot about making a right hash of the WU map course.

With a few of the team. Potentially not needed and not convinced if it was a good or bad effect on the following day. Probably negligible.
