The weather was really hot, which meant getting sun burnt while waiting for an hour in the holding pens.

I didn't sleep too well on the Saturday night, but felt ok on Sunday. The morning went pretty quickly and before I knew it we were packed and on our way to the start. Jess and I got dropt off and as we were walking to the start tents I realized I had kept my sunglasses on, but decided i will wear them under my cap. Just after this I realized I had forgotten my goggles and to take my oxygen tablets. This made me more nervous for the race as I wasn't sure what other problems I was going to run into through the course of the day.

Once we were well burnt, we were lined up on the start for the quick sprint to the water. By quick I mean I passed a lot of people walking... My start was ok, and I decided to try out crawl, since it has improved a lot. After a while I find I wasn't getting anywhere, so i switched to breast stroke, to just end up swallowing water and ending up swimming on my back hoping 1 of the life guards wasn't going to rush and save me from me choking on the water. Soon i was on my way, developing my own style of breast stroke to avoid the small, choppy waves from crushing into my face and get down my throat. I think the toughest part of the race was the distance between 400m and 800m, where most groups behind start to pass and you realize how far the distance really is. The first half I did have thoughts of giving up, but I didn't go all the way down there just to hit half way and stop, so I kept plowing on and before I knew it, it was 400m to go and I was actually racing with people for the finish. The relief was great as I crossed the finish line, and could straighten my cramping fingers. The thought is still in my mind if I should do it again or not, but I guess only next year will tell.
