Logging my Errors ? Where do I start ?
That's what I asked myself right at the start. I stared at the map and didn't know where I was and I didn't yet move. Then I suddenly remembered to use my compass, so I got it out of my pocket. Then started walking, then running, then walking again because of hill. Stared at the map again, to try to figure out what a small black spot means until I ran into a big boulder.
CP 5 : I didn't understand some of the features on the map, couldn't relate them to the ground and spend 10 minutes looking for "my" control (I found a few others though)
CP 9 : Missed this because I was following a woman. Arrived at CP 10 only to backtrack to CP 9. (I probably got the fastest time for CP 10)
CP14 : Complete mess ! Didnt' see a path on the map, but CP was before path. Took 20+ minutes to locate CP. Even Backtracking to CP 13 again.
Also got confused by hearing a beep just after two women came running past me. I examined the area in great detail but I didn't find a CP, never mind "mine". Where did the beep come from ?
After this, the juice was gone and I trundled down to the finish with head in my hands.
After all though a great event. I liked the scenery, the people, the organisation, the robins (thanks for making me smile!), and running up and down those wooded hills was spectacularly great fun. A good day of learning for a novice.
