Note

A week visit from sister Vicky. Spent a night at Joe Dodge Lodge in Pinkham Notch, two meals at visitor center. Drove up the auto road, not easy in places! - close to road’s edge on steep slope several times. Great views - we were lucky in that regard. Brought back many experiences there: first time, January, ’69 hike up auto road with two Echo company mates from navy OCS, one had never seen snow (we had watch caps, pea coats and boonies as well as abiding weather). ’75 & ’76 road races; March, ’78 traverse of northern Presidentials; another ’78, started up Boot Spur but weather made it unwise; ’82, up the auto road starting at sunset (Beth went to tree line). Not sure when next. Maybe again in the 90s by car. Climbed once from Ammonoosuc trail & Lakes of Clouds hut around 2016.

After the Notch, on to Whitefield to the impressive Mountainview Grand resort with incomparable views and yesterday a stop at massive Mt. Washington House for comparison. Back thru Franconia Notch, stopped at Echo Lake.
