Sunday Dec 31

orienteering (mapping) 2:45:00 [1]3.0 mi (55:00 / mi)
Mapping in Nottingcook, started on a north slope on edge of forest under heavy hemlock cover, proved cold & even a touch depressing as it was hard to get it right, so spent the rest in relative sunshine, easier work. Dogs along as always. No nature noted but 5 mice now live on kitchen counter.

Saturday Dec 30

orienteering 1:30:00 [2]
in Nottingcook with usual company; used color copy of field work, actually did some orienteering, no compass, got confused once or twice... Brightening sky. Wanted to map but can't in falling snow. Not a peep from nature, not even a mouse.

Friday Dec 29

weights (and run) 50:00 [3]
not that i would yet know (ie, take/have the time) how to separate run from weight, producing color graphs et al

20' earlyAM run in Nottingcook to keep dogs happy & were they ever with discovery of coyotes, a den we'd also 'dug up' more than a year ago - indignant yelps for quite a few minutes, no flesh exchanged. Rest Fri post-work at gym, rather boring, rather necessary...beneficial if consistent

AOWN - mice abound in this house, a few have joined us as pets for the winter, as they did last winter (at home on the kitchen counter) in their Petco trophy house

Wednesday Dec 27

trail/woods running 49:06 [3]5.0 mi (9:49 / mi)
Run from NHH around noon - by Concord Hospital, into St Paul's property. Manage to stay away from roads. Not much energy.

Tuesday Dec 26

weights 35:00 [1]
35' at gym, not been there since last April... a 'necessary burden'... various muscle groups need more use than they get.

Monday Dec 25

trail/woods running 40:00 [3]4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
laps north of Burlington, Vt - woods to bluff by lake a few times.

Sunday Dec 24

orienteering (mapping) 2:15:00 [1]2.5 mi (53:59 / mi)
out with usual companions. Windy, nice. Saw a hare closeby (saw one 3 wks ago, pure white) this one was mostly white but what color to be in this snowless terrain.... Reasonably satisfied w/ mapping but under hemlocks alot on a slope, hard to get any useful point objects in place with respect to each other.

Saturday Dec 23

trail/woods running 1:06:36 [2]3.5 mi (19:01 / mi)
in Nottingcook, starting on far side (car ride) with Zoe & Mocha. Picked up 3 controls and 3 streamers in dripping, getting-dark woods.

Thursday Dec 21

trail/woods running 1:02:27 [3]6.8 mi (9:10 / mi)
run home from work, do this not often enough. start 2 flat miles then ups and downs. dark roads but not much traffic so not a hassle, even some starlight. need to recheck distance to earn the pace claimed -:)

Monday Dec 18

trail/woods running 30:00 [3]2.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
out the 'work door' at lunch, 5' jog to Concord HS track. Ran 1 400 'warmup' then 8:00 & 7:42 miles. The eight was exactly 2 minutes per lap without thinking about it. Wish they could have been a minute faster but this is the dark season, unlike the expectation of spring.

Sunday Dec 17

orienteering (mapping) 4:00:00 [1]3.0 mi (1:20:00 / mi)
another 4 hours mapping, great weather. Dogs would not give up on dead deer leg, rotten meat etc. Guess I didn't yell enough.Found streamers stating 'lot line' from some 8 yrs ago when forest was the mindset of the local developer. Fortunately, town woke up, otherwise whispering pines would only be a name.

Saturday Dec 16

orienteering (mapping) 4:15:00 [1]3.5 mi (1:12:50 / mi)
mapping in Nottingcook Forest - great day, dogs for company. Looks alot like West Point where I spent my time. Picked up 4 controls from UNO mtg, 2 more can wait when I happen by,
probably won't be found or eaten.

Thursday Dec 14

orienteering (mapping) 4:00:00 [3]6.0 mi (39:59 / mi)
ran back from Saab garage for 6 miles around 9:30 pace, warm day in the making. Felt like I was due a day away from work & so took one. Went out mapping for 3 hrs with dogs, great walk for them. Put some bends in trails, worked under tall hemlocks, finding rock faces and doing my best improving contours...a day meant to be outside

Tuesday Dec 12

orienteering intervals 57:00 [3]3.5 mi (16:16 / mi)
2 runs today...out the door at 0720 with eager dogs, 22deg, wanted to see if i enjoyed a loop before work or would rather be lazy...former was true. brought back a control from UNO's Sunday mtg. Went to St Paul's school at noon - was going to do the 'loop de loop' thru woods & fields (causes honest pain) but came upon the track,, sun was so nice. Ran 8 400's in tee shirt, not bad for dark period of year...started around 118" and ended up around 94-96"

Saturday Dec 9

orienteering 3:00:00 [1]
3 hrs on a new map (mine) putting out controls for the UNO club mtg Sunday. Always interesting to use your work (currently 1/7500 color xerox of field work) for the first time - it's been since early '80's that i was out on a map of my own making.

Thursday Dec 7

thinking (thinking) 5:00 [0]
thinking how i should 'confess' to training or whatever it is... NY's coming up, start at bottom, last winter would have put me up at top, mapping..long climb getting anywhere
