Walking 18:00 [1] 0.7 mi (25:42 / mi)

Slough again looking for the webs spotted yesterday - not there...don't believe I overlooked yet hard to believe the biggest would disappear just like that. Certainly is "Breakfast at Tiffany's" time, each with its special offering. Approx an hour later this am, so less shadow & dew. Camera battery flat - a bit of a surprise.

Right about now Mt. Washington RR is starting. Great day! Diane, PG, Alex - who else on so encouraging a day. Should be a web cam on top of the mt.

Orienteering 16:28 intensity: (5:00 @3) + (11:28 @4) 1.11 mi (14:50 / mi) +32m 13:37 / mi

Deer run sprint course - first time in such summer green. Thick & wet mucky in swamp, deadfall on way to 4, power line veg is getting high, other places with waist, even chest high, ferns hiding dead fall. HTFU potential. Shoe untied on way to #3. Good to do though. Thought it would have been the slowest - surprised to see it was not.

Road running 16:31 intensity: (2:00 @1) + (7:00 @2) + (7:31 @3) 1.42 mi (11:36 / mi) +33m 10:49 / mi

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.7 mi (25:42 / mi)

To slough, cloudless taking time to admire the work of ants & spiders.
Always admiring ants restoring their castles so shortly after a heavy rain or spiders weaving such complexity. Drove off on Mocha as a lark, a first. Silly animal takes her own sweet time returning to the car which gets to be annoying as time melts away.

Note

An interesting article for gardeners: Slugs

I get bent out of shape with deer eating our hostas & have found a spray that keeps them away (pretty putrid smelling)

From Via Tranquilla - path to Pennacook to water works & return. Mostly shade, green filtering the blue beyond. Guessed 175' drop, 305 shows 75m.

Walking 17:00 [1] 0.6 mi (28:19 / mi)

Took a look at the tadpole pool - between one swamped swamp flowing into another - bigger than before after yesterday's rain. Also went out to garden shed with Beth to take a look at the mice - moved the CI out there yesterday, door wide open but, no longer surprising, they appear to be living contentedly inside.

The Pool - stream across road at far end

SPS track high noon, high sun time of year - seemed a bit harsh but had a
cap, air was dry & there was a gentle breeze about 1/2 the time. Brought 305 to note HR/effort relation (more effort than HR). Not sure of best way to use the 305, however. Resetting makes for many globes. A lot to be said for old-fashioned stop watch type watch. Anyway, went thru motions which included finding HRM for starters. Did a few 200s, then 400, 800, one 1200. Considered another 800 but pager went off & had 1:30 clinic to boot. Flat anyway - right after lunch, midday, mediocre sleep.

Walking 14:30 [1] 0.5 mi (28:59 / mi)

Walked the Block directly. Sodden morning & still raining. Didn't keep the mosquitoes & DFs from trying though.

Fireflies were best I'd ever seen in the backyard last night - barely remember them outback. Beth wondered if the warm winter may have played a role.

Road/trail 40:00 [2] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

SPS wander, along bike path, under 89, to crew house to see who might be swimming/sunning (5 bikinied maidens, c. age16 - no one else), then to XC area (still same times posted from 2/19/11), past JBs place ("must get together") & thru maintenance & done. Sun was out finally, shade cool & pleasant. Slept about two hours last night, still more life than I thought I'd have.

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.6 mi (29:59 / mi)

DP from Amphitheater. AOWN: had to drive around a 10" or so snapper entering the brush dump this am. Was stopped by a small steam flowing across the SVT from marsh to marsh - noticed some small black objects in the water. Closer inspection revealed tadpoles - then noticed there were easily a thousand spread around - many, many in wheel ruts not an inch deep. Last night, we took a short walk and were treated with numerous lightening bug lanterns. Haven't seen much of them since childhood - maybe insecticides did them in?

SPS round 1130, warm in sun but XC mostly shaded. One lvl 2 effort loop around 18' then tried for sub-15', coming up way short at 15:42. 2 yrs ago, would have been an entire minute faster. Barely visited XC last year - will have to check. No track, no XC, no energetic runs home, plus 2 years closer to the end of the road...duh. Any PRs become age-linked vs absolute but no option but to try.

Went back to this am's watering hole for my entertainment

Turns out last XC was 11/1/10 in 15:33 - where has time gone. Handwritten goes back to 2006, lots of 15+ but then to mid-14s & better.

Went to SPS for track after work - got there to find some kind of yard party, tents, tables, lots of chairs with track passing w/in 20m. So that was out. Considered BHS but SPS was a bird in hand. Did some splits of XC loop. Need to get busy on that - has been a long time. Cut it short - boat stuff most pm's until 6/18.
