Walking 21:00 [1] 0.7 mi (29:59 / mi)

Slough & back, legions of water spiders & fresh moose tracks were sightings.
4 PM

Orienteering 38:37 intensity: (23:37 @3) + (15:00 @4) 4.01 km (9:38 / km) +53m 9:02 / km

Nottingcook orange from 2007. Got over usual pm lethargy; nearly a pint of Cherry Garcia when getting home fm work, then a nap after some chores. The gradual "arousal" to point ("you must do this") I could start an uphill first leg. Scratchy & sloppy describes the run. On hot side so no shirt, so itchy by end. Several places very thick. Not good enough map contact - rescued by memory in a few places. Hard orange!

No AP splits for comparison - was hoping for same but what to expect, dogging it with orange - just nipped 10'/k.

Encountered Bow resident Eben Herrick, BSA troop 75, setting up for a BSA weekend in Nottingcook, right where usual. I bit my tongue re the line still tied around my once choice group of hemlocks not 15m away, cut down, tied up, left for dead about 3 years ago for reasons unclear to me.

Entered NAOC today, a procrastination entry but not too late. Well, off banquet list & who knows about lodging. Good to have as fall goal & likely Ontario long champs as well 2 weeks before.

Hopkinton RR after work - Patch & Rollins. Hot day but 90% shade. Last was 5/9 that I found, so awhile. Distance & climb from 5/9 305.

Visit to BB to see Marcello's mapping which is very good, no surprise. Lots of green in the current area. Indeed a challenge to map. Interesting finding him - he'd given me a map portion with a time where he'd be working. Was able to spot him w/o any whistling/yelling in light green area.

Had thought of a run at a track after but spent the rest of the PM at Mark's & Bow lake.

This but not much else spotted

Road/trail 27:14 intensity: (7:00 @2) + (17:44 @3) + (2:30 @4) 2.68 mi (10:10 / mi) +67m 9:26 / mi

Bog Loop with Mocha. Met fellow & dog coming our way. We had to leave trail so his skittish dog would pass. Met 2 fellows and their dog not 5' later. How unusual. Ran last section at 4-5 effort.

Run was sandwiched by two phone calls. Both concerned the Williams 100 year XC reunion. First to Steve Orr. Steve had college mile record for some # of years, around 4:16. Now weighs 210 & plays/prefers golf. Graduated in same class at SPS as PG. Going to Italy so no reunion. After the run, called Roger Maynard who is as intense as ever, has same college weight, 37 years teaching HS social studies in VT, had college 880 record - 153.8 for years. Does intervals on the track with the HS kids - old drive still alive. Ran a 6:32 last spring but his keenness gets him in MSK trouble. Right now, an achilles tendonitis after pushing 5 miles with daughter. Limping around & would not be content unless pushing hard at the reunion 5k race. Had not spoken with Steve for say 25 years & Roger maybe 15. An interesting visit to the power line indeed.

Manito Park, Spokane. Got over lethargy with a Pepsi. Goal was 30' motion, OOB at first. Lovely gardens: Rose, Duncan, Japanese. Coeur d'Alene and Spokane proved nice cities!

Hiking 1:30:00 [1] 3.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

To & from here & there places off Going to the Sun Road - a you-deserve-a-break-today day. Met
Mike Potter
outside the Lake McDonald Lodge. Bike enthusiasts would have comments re his chosen bike and sked to visit all 4 US corners (eastmost ME, Key West, US-Mex border S of San Diego, Neah Bay) in the next 7 months. He had begun the day before from Whitefish. Invited him for dinner & the night should he actually get to NH.
