Orienteering race 52:38 [3] 2.7 mi (19:28 / mi) +227m 15:26 / mi

Sunday middle, ok except for #5 - misread the control description, ie, the "L" as in foot of cliff outside a circle in clue description was as small as can be. I read it as a dot as in "side of" which, of course, was most confusing as it does not apply to cliffs. Muttering """at least use "foot" symbol!""" while running round & up & down & to NW foot twice. CP was in a jumble of rocks, thru some green at base of perhaps 30' cliff. It was in the center of the circle. Lost some 6' compared to Dave Cady. Rest ok tho I was in a state of disequilibrium for a bit after. Departing #5 had quite a cliff to negotiate - needed to be more one side or the other. No falls on the course, however...falls not affordable for the most part on such terrain.

Orienteering race 21:49 [4] 1.53 mi (14:14 / mi) +117m 11:30 / mi

Sunday sprint, no misses but RC to 5 was likely not the best - did not see the path route as I did not spend enough time looking. Was lucky to stumble upon a small stairway thru the high retaining wall (a small, old path with recent use led there).

Note

Camping at Round Pond thanks to Jim Arsenault - two calm and cloudless lovely days & nights, sleeping with peepers & geese (plus Beth & dogs). Dinner with Dave Cady Fri & Sat, Jim Saturday. Compared Schades with Park Restaurant right next door, Park getting the nod. West Point campus was alive with rites of spring activity on a Sunday afternoon. Left right after finishing (almost forgot to download) to drive to Holbrook. Manhattan, Cross Bronx, LIE provided a lively comparison.

An excellent WP weekend by Cadets & weather powers-that-be.

Orienteering race 39:16 [3] 2.86 mi (13:45 / mi) +93m 12:29 / mi

WP middle at Popolopen. Cool - perfect weather. Good except for #7 which I misread as RF between 2 spurs and not a RF at top of very large reentrant - so what I was looking for was hard to find. Cost perhaps 90". Took road around to #2 - not sure if that was better - always seems like a bit of cheating, disengaging the mind for that long a road run (road went on & on). Give it a B+.

Orienteering race 14:58 [4] 1.35 mi (11:05 / mi) +50m 9:56 / mi

Sprint at Popolopen - no mistakes at least but sluggish for much of it. Maybe A- for lack of errors. Nice course as was the middle.

Track 17:17 intensity: (4:10 @2) + (2:40 @3) + (10:27 @4) 3.8 km (4:33 / km)
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

SPS track, noon. Perfect temp, some NW breeze. Good energy but time to take it easy. A small taste of speed work thinking of two upcoming sprints. Running fast/hard is unfamiliar at this time. Best was a 99s which could have been turned into a 90 but that's asking for trouble.

Wood hauling/stacking 40:00 [1]

Last of wood schlepping for time being. Several such piles, this the biggest and last 2 logs called for getting smart in moving about 90'. Needs to be moved across stream, split, then moved another 200' est. Better than going to the gym...? Of practical value anyway.

Road/trail 1:14:18 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (44:18 @2) + (10:00 @3) 5.72 mi (12:59 / mi) +166m 11:55 / mi
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

5th District Road start, along Lakeview & water pipeline, Carter Hill, W. Parrish, Ross View. 74F, toward the end went shirtless. Legs still flat on top of poor night's sleep. A struggle. Sore Rt MTP to add to the fun. Some parts of paths quite soft. Private property posted at Rossview so resorted to woods w/o path which deteriorated to walking. Fell asleep in car in driveway when I got home. Gorgeous spring day anyway!

Weightexercise workout 45:00 [1]

Chilly, dreary day - 41F felt like 31F. Went to the Y for stretching etc. Had 2 miles jogging in mind but outside was uninviting so bike & elliptical. Arms sore from Sunday's splat.

In the press-on-regardless category:

Tony Mangan makes it to Alice Springs: on the road.

"In Patagonia, it was the wind. In the Outback, it's the flies."

Jean Socrates, day 183, NW of North Cape, NZ.
