Orienteering 1:04:52 intensity: (49:52 @2) + (15:00 @3) 5.47 km (11:51 / km) +80m 11:03 / km

UNO NOD meet, Deb Humiston's hard work. Day began grim at home with the last of heavy rain but a blue band was visible in the west on the way over & it was sunny/pleasant eventually. Helped with S/F. Did brown - had not been there in years - very technical but with its share of paths. Lots of boulders, well-mapped, good contours but still hard. Not careful enough to #2 & #7 flag was by the wrong but nearby boulder. Had quit on that one & in heading to #8, there it was.

Threw away 15' on 2 points. TP was 80' for 5.8k green so difficult O. Lots of paths but space between them (to get 'lost'). I think they are all mapped.

Not sure how many came (25?) but reminded me of all the work for no guarantees & how I think I'd do a local now expecting significant help beforehand, ie, help a future meet director. Ernst, Jim, Alar, Dean were the regulars. Tim Parson was about the first I saw (it had been so quiet while still very gray) - a MD yesterday & 'day off' today.

Orienteering race 1:24:03 [3] 9.08 km (9:16 / km) +143m 8:35 / km

NOD @Great Brook Farm SP, thanks to Tim Parson & NEOC. Lots of people there. Decent run, B+ anyway. Red was 7.1k and 21c so a bit long - scale was 1/7500. Remember the days when I hoped courses would be around 10k for a better chance at Steve Tarry.

Feet thoroughly wet on way to #3 - no way to avoid. Felt like #5 wasn't quite where it was supposed to be. Lost maybe 1' @ 12, 45" @ 18, 45" @ 19, 1.5' on way to & @ 21. Best for me around 80'. Missed splits 13, 15, 18, 19.

Marvelous coincidence: saw a fellow orienteering with four Corgis.
A form of Four-O - if there ever was one.

After drove along Curve & Fiske harking back to good old days, all ghosts today. Walked the perimeter of the Fiske property as Beth & I used to do.
The garden was overgrown, the old shed still there - neglected, half hidden by vegetation. We wrapped a VW Beetle up alongside it on an October eve in 1984 - left it there for the winter when we went away. I'm nostalgia prone, Beth very little if at all.

Stumpfield loop, CCW. Cool enough around 3p, plenty of shade. Have not done this in a long time. Haven't even run 5 mi in too long. Glad to see the barn. Felt good about doing it though. More to come.

Walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

Just walking - to slough in am & along WH road with Beth & dogs in pm. We re-stained the paintball-defaced kiosk at the end of the road. Also picked up trash in the "shooting gallery" field.

2 O meets this weekend for a change. Local, too.

Trail/woods running 48:54 intensity: (4:00 @1) + (36:54 @2) + (8:00 @3) 4.0 mi (12:14 / mi)
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

SPS wander late pm on a delightfully cool day. I think it was the first frost of the new season this morning. Went down the bike path, along the shore of Turkey Pond & back thru campus & XC woods. Saw lots of XC kids out.
Also one lovely image of a guy fishing on a pane of blue glass with splendid background. He was fishing from a motionless canoe (with electric motor on back) - long gray beard and hair and wide brimmed cap.

Considerable wood hauling & splitting as well.

Beth's bird feeder & bear (from a few weeks ago)
