Cardio 32:43 [3] 2.05 mi (15:58 / mi) +1m 15:56 / mi

BHS, around 5p. Nice breeze even if a bit hot, not very humid. Had pretty good energy. Also had some fruit drink and proper cushioning for right heel. Second time to BHS-Turee today, earlier for kayaking. HR 142 at end.

Note

Watched "Race" last night, the story of Jesse Owens at the '36 Olympics - the good & wonderful and the bad and the ugly. Seems his Ohio State coach was a life saver and well as his chief rival in the broad jump, a German who believed in "may the best win" in spite of Nazi expectation.

Went kayaking this morning with Beth on Turee. Started about 0600, calm as could be. First use of the kayak in a long time -- part time reading the paper, part time absorbing morning sounds & sights. We saw a snake on the launch ramp who evidently came out of the water for breakfast. Looks like the water snake PG photographed in MA. Has a fish in its mouth, came from the water, returned to the water, a water snake no doubt.

Cardio 24:53 [3] 1.5 mi (16:35 / mi) +1m 16:33 / mi

BHS around 5:30, rain clouds and some wind, no rain. Was more hot than not (occasionally the wind lined up and brought relief), and deer flies chased me around the track, making for a rather unpleasant sum. Tired from the get-go to boot and right heel sore. Stopped at 1.5 mi.

Last night's heavy rain got into the house thru the south wall. Put a cover on the roof this PM. The wall was supposed to be redone this spring. Contractors can be iffy, esp since we were not demanding enough. Alot of that had to do with boat preoccupation. Will be interesting to see how well the cover works. The dog dish on the patio had about 1.5-1.75" of rain water in it.

Long day, no time for exercise, too tired by the time we got back. Drove to Fairhaven to a rigger's shop. Dropped off the lifelines, then to Alastair and Chris Craig's place on Green St., not a mile away. Alastair is 86, looks about 70.

Then to MGH from New Bedford via 140, 24, 95 & 90. The parking garage, 55 Fruit St entrance, walking thru the main lobby, taking the elevator to Ellison 8 all about brought chills. Went to see my roommate from last January, now with a new heart. Interesting that one can just take the elevator to the 8th floor, and walk into the cardiac surgery step-down unit without being scrutinized.

Home via 93 - Friday July 4th weekend traffic was slow at times but not miserable. Mocha passed the day inside with flying colors. We took a walk in Nottingcook. I mostly sat on a log reading the SPLC paper out of the rain. She hunkered down, enjoying the time outside.

Cardio 36:28 intensity: (4:28 @1) + (20:00 @2) + (12:00 @3) 2.19 mi (16:39 / mi) +1m 16:38 / mi

BHS track. Bright, sunny, breezy. Took Mocha for a walk and then started walking around the track. It was hard to get in motion psychologiclly - just plain loggy. Picked up though. Need consistent CV stress to move ahead.

310XT would not turn on at home. I was pretty sure it was adequately charged. Tried everything -- different charger, power source etc. Then read about resets. Power + menu didn't work but it came alive with power + reset.

Cardio 34:49 [3] 2.13 mi (16:21 / mi) +1m 16:19 / mi

BHS track, get the HR up goal (138 at end). Did so, 300m just bringing on right thigh sx.

Dark, dark sky over Turee with lightning. Windy, dark, rainy, thunder shortly after. Had hail earlier. A moody day.
