Bear Brook, gray day, first I was going then not going due to rain fcst but then decided I just had to go, fcst or not & was rewarded w/o any rain til I'd left. Parked on Podunk at start of Lowland Tr, took it to where it ended on the old BB #1 map and then went up & up in logged semi-open woods. Headed for a pond I must have last seen 20 yrs ago & then into the open logged area that offered expansive views and an abundance of blueberries. Then back in to the woods finding a few features making my way east. Then another 'oops' - I was thinking I was in the middle of nowhere when the Lowland Tr. (not drawn on the map) was at my feet again & so then began a different mentality/approach. Hard to figure out where I was, there being too many boulders and trail curves too nonspecific. Did see a marsh about 60m in but it looked bigger than the one mapped. Features made sense for the most part, even in the overgrown rides but never entirely convincing. Always went directly east and then noted a distinct shallow depression with a rock face & boulder I'd been to before. Managed to locate it on the map. Cont'd east to the marshes at the west base of Bear Hill & then onto Hedgehog Ledge Tr, & the trail on the north base of Bear Hill back to car.
Map
The logged area with a blueberry treasure trove. The only mapped feature is a wide, shallow, flat-bottomed reentrant.
