Skate skiing 25:00 [1]

Behind 10 Grandview Ave where the field is almost always shaded. Wondered if there would be good crust given yesteday's mid-40s and the background of scant snow locally. It was mostly too hard. Shadiest was best - I think because the snow was deepest. Very windy day as was yesterday.

Cardio 15:00 [2]

Treadmill at Y. Some of the entertainment was a walk around Wellington harbor side which struck a chord.

Weightexercise workout 45:00 [1]

Lite weights.

Note

CSM weekend, brought to mind as my CH surgeon is competing. Watched two gold coeur du bois You Tube videos to get an idea of what it's like...0400 start, 80k ski, night outside on a hay bail, 0400 start, another 80k. Looking very cold most of the time, esp. in the early morning dark. Sharon did this numerous times. Tough stuff, esp. doing it again and again.

Walking 1:11:37 [1] 3.39 mi (21:07 / mi) +19m 20:46 / mi

Eye visit to MEEI/Boston. Gray day, drizzle. After the appointment, I crossed westbound Storrow (dog eat dog speeding traffic) for the relative peace & quiet of the Esplanade. Lots of runners & joggers, quite a few in shorts, or w/o hats, gloves, or both, T c. 40F. Crossed back over Storrow on Mass Av bridge, then walked along Commonwealth to the Public Gardens & Commons & finally across part of Beacon Hill back to MEEI. The morning drive to Boston was easy, particularly given last night's weather. We drove home from the Tuthills in Alexandria starting 1030 pm, the icy rain looking much like glass shards falling from the sky, and a lowered speed limit of 45 on 93.

This was last eye visit for a year anyway for retinal findings that presented to me with "crooked" pylons on the power line around Feb., 2017. My local eye doctor wanted these "spots" examined by a uveitis specialist. One conclusion is that these may have represented micro emboli from heart valve surgery, Jan., 2017, a month or so earlier.

Around Boston: Frozen Charles; Esplanade; glimpse of Louisburg Sq

Walking 45:04 [1] 1.08 mi (41:44 / mi) +49m 36:34 / mi

Walk up OJR, another bright, warm day. I've not visited there much in past years. Way back, '02-3, I used it quite a bit when the dogs were young. Some ice on the road, no falls. Left the road for woods and pondered walls. Returned to the main intersection, cont'd on the road but opted to return to the woods, following deer tracks in the general direction back. Didn't see any living thing, but alot of prints. Would have guessed a mile and a half but it was a deceipt of slow slogging.

Classic skiing 1:40:51 [1] 3.58 mi (28:10 / mi) +93m 26:04 / mi

From BHS elementary school on way home from work. It was mid-50s today. Started around 2:45. Uniform of the day was corduroys, button down shirt, and cashmere sweater which became a scarf for want of a better place to store it. Didn't think I'd be going home but got further and further and did not want to backtrack. Snow was soft and thin in quite a few places. Had to remove skis for about 250m for one road-drive and the last 0.4mi on BBR and Allen. Wondered if I was abusive again, particularly climbing the only big hill. No falls anyway. A nice "adventure".

Classic skiing 40:00 [1]

Went to Stoneybrook. No ski or snow mobile tracks. Went across bog, found a set of ski tracks and then 2 snow mobiles passed ahead. Went on the snow mobile trail some, then had to turn around. Back across the bog starting in a swampy area with snow crust breaking/settling - took getting used to. Managed to fall in woods minimizing contours about 75 yds from car. Had to take a ski off. Falling felt like post-op abuse.
