Walking (Nordic walking) 53:42 [2] 1.64 mi (32:45 / mi) +20m 31:33 / mi

At Hammond. Bright, breezy, downright chilly with a cold front coming thru. Rained all day yesterday and hard last night. Met a runner and a golden retriever puppy, both causing considerable excitement for W. Her major accomplishment was managing to roll in something awful which I failed to notice. Had to get out a bucket when we got home.

Kayaking 1:05:31 [1] 2.18 mi (30:03 / mi) +1m 30:01 / mi

Pawtuckaway Lake with Beth. Amazing that no one was using the group camping parking or canoe launch. Gorgeous day. Circled the islands, many interesting homes on the shore. Wished I could have followed up with an orienteering walk. It's certainly time to try.

Walking (Nordic walking) 43:17 [1] 0.94 mi (46:02 / mi) +73m 37:05 / mi

With Willow from north side, figuring less people on the path. Didn't see anyone at the top until I was about to leave. W started barking and bouncing and disappeared, came back, ran toward me, turned around, raced to the summit cairn, rather agitated. What could it be? A very large, expressionless man who did not react - just stopped, stood like a statue. W needed a friendly "come here pooch". Without that she was scared - perhaps a 'beast' that looked like a person.

Great colors, strong SSE wind at the top. Was wearing a singlet, the temp above 70F today. Nice end to the first half of October.

PT exercise 30:00 [2]

At Foothills with Bridgette. The field across the oxbow had been turned over with manure - the smell was simply awful.

Walking (Nordic walking) 54:06 [2] 1.49 mi (36:18 / mi) +47m 33:04 / mi

Single Circuit and Robinson's Crest with Beth & W. "Leafy carpets aglow' kind of day.

PT exercise 25:00 [1]

Behind town offices on grassy carpet. Recalls hot summer days there for same.

Walking (Nordic walking) 54:23 [1] 1.08 mi (50:30 / mi) +28m 46:44 / mi

With W to the bog, mostly weeds now. The placement of several new SS pylons has made for excavation and laying down of short stretches of gravel road for heavy machinery. Tried to return under the pines. A lot of new growth in the past 10 years makes the woods almost impenetrable. Eventually sat under a large pine on a comfortable carpet of needles and pondered the stillness.
