Note

Busy days. Wed., went to Turkey River with the expectation of skating on a crusted cornfield. But no snow to speak of although there was sufficient in some fields in Bow - untrammeled and no tree debris. Yesterday, I walked W around a small portion of bare-ground White Park to the sounds/laughter of people enjoying themselves. Today, Beth's 80th, as well as weekly show up at work, was 'otherwise' re exercise. Spring's knocking at the door. Skiing, as well as I can do it, will have to wait for next year.

Walking 2:00:00 [2] 3.0 mi (40:00 / mi)

Knox TF, walked Miss Smith, Miss Putney, White Pine, Boulder, and Single Circuit to where it continues as the snowmobile track to Rob Rd., home on Dean. Beth dropped me off at the trail head on Bow Center Rd. And 2+ hrs later, she happened to drive by on Dean (which she doesn’t use much, preferring not to cut thru) & picked me & Willow up for the last bit.

Really nice woods and trails, esp Boulder Tr. Hadn't seen Bow's biggest boulder in maybe 3 yrs. Forgot Yak Trax, not much of a problem except on a few north-facing slopes and more so under the hemlocks where everything was cooler and generally more rocky. Forgot Garmin in hurry to get ride to start as Beth was going to town. Met one golden whom W had a good fling with. And a woman at the end with two dogs which went less well but no harm done.

Orienteering 1:42:48 [2] 2.55 mi (40:23 / mi) +66m 37:22 / mi

From Great Hill kiosk home, start about 3:15. T got above 50F today, to 60F in town but woods always cooler. Maybe 20% off trail, some of it a slog, esp from power line home. I considered going home from PL on the road but that was too wimpy to carry out. Even muddy footprints in one place under PL and a soft swamp behind the house. Tired, a bit crabby from fighting branches near the end.

Walking 50:00 [1]

Old Johnson Rd. to the power line. Also brush dump walk just before Jenn visited with Roo. Another cloudless blue dome day.

Walking 42:47 [1] 1.36 mi (31:27 / mi) +57m 27:50 / mi

KTF from Robinson Rd pkng with W. Sunny, bright. Shorter than I recalled. Robinson's Crest is sublime, Single Circuit not so much. Should have planned to continue onto Boulder. Next time. Met three ladies that fancied W's enthusiasm - which was directed at them.

Skate skiing 20:00 [1]

BOS c. 4pm for skate sample - pretty hard crust but worked well enough. Balance, balance. Seems more daylight than I remember other early Marches.
10 AM

Walking (Nordic walking) 1:56:04 [2] 2.87 mi (40:26 / mi) +89m 36:53 / mi

WTF with W. Blue, white, bright, March. Parked at old town hall, took Rookery to Eagle, to Esker to Stinger to Eastman. WTF is gorgeous in most areas, hemlocks and hillocks with open hardwoods in a few places. Might have walked back on Br. Londonderry but too icy to have any appeal. Spring melt will be most welcome.
