Track 40:00 [3] 2.5 mi (16:00 / mi)

Walk with Beth & W opposite Cilley's. Got into watching pre-adolescent girls softball practice. W. surprised us by running onto the field to say hi to everyone she could. Gray, chilly day. Made a fire in the wood stove - thought we were done with same after the heat wave.

Orienteering 1:58:50 [2] 3.49 mi (34:03 / mi) +115m 30:53 / mi

Bear Brook with W. Started at Hayes, then along marsh at north end. Was on my way to very western part when a sign said old reservoir 2.5mi which made me think about how far this outing was going to be. Nearly 4 mi by the reservoir which was making for 7 or so. Not sure I was up to it. Not hot in the shade though. Then bushwacked pretty much S in the woods to two hills separated by a big rock-bottom reentrant which made map location easy. 1/15 with rough/vague contours - hard to believe how much we used to have to deal with and boulders that an older eye can barely see on the 1/15. I was using a BB map first used 9/25/77 per the clue sheet. I was in the sun approaching the high point with chest high second growth vegetation making for obnoxious going. Got to top, found a rest place in shade with view, got some energy & then bushwacked down to a 1975 mapped trail which I eventually recognized & returned on Podunk Rd. Bushwacking was in tick heaven/haven, 5 between the two of us so far. Aug 11, 2018: almost same time and distance, same area, different route.

Walking 45:00 [3]

Grafton Pond with Beth & W. Got up at 4:45 for this. Took more than an hour to get there. Foggy/misty, certainly not hot around 7am. Nice assortment of islands with 100% undeveloped shoreline. W got in the kayak, as long as she could sit in Beth’s lap. Weight distribution was a bit top heavy but she didn’t get any bright ideas about jumping in for the nearest shore.

Not there very long. I wasn’t comfortable getting into deeper water, further from shore because I didn’t trust W but progress was made. Green Mansion dirt roads in the Enfield/ Grafton area, tunnels thru the green leaves. I shuddered at the thought of bug-filled woods tho on the pond it was fine.

Walking 34:28 [1] 1.49 mi (23:08 / mi) +27m 21:54 / mi

BHS trails. Dip in Turee w/ W after. Then came some rain. 95F today.
New iPhone, good to have the flexibility of gpx from Strava vs the Garmin watch again.

Walking 41:35 [1] 1.07 mi (38:52 / mi) +48m 34:07 / mi

Great Hill with W from south side, still cool in a period of 4 90+F days. Some shade at top, decent breeze. Returned on SM trails. Call from Rob finally had me sitting by the kiosk as three dog walkers passed to start their 'hike'.

To Merrymeeting with Beth & W, arrive around noon. Sat by the lake, over 90F today but nothing like that in shade with a breeze coming ashore. Took a dip, the year's first. It seemed slightly shocking but mostly just being 'rusty'.

In the eve, a drive to Kimball which led to driving on around my old running loop of 10+ miles. So full of June green now.
