run hills 54:00 [5]

6 times Artaban, joined by Balogna early on. Together we attacked them. Again and again we ascended. Relentless. Ever higher. Etc. Warmed up around Skunk Hollow, which is a slushy mess.

Wednesday Feb 27, 2013 #

run 33:00 [3]

Such an interesting winter. Baby loop with Balogna and Trix to test the trails. Perfectly runnable, but messy.

Tuesday Feb 26, 2013 #

run 1:00:00 [5]

8 Aberdeen loops back at Chedoke after a month of failed experiments at Churchill. Grant, Turbo and the dogs kept things honest.

Monday Feb 25, 2013 #

Note

It's not just about the running. Sometimes we just have to step out. Boundless night at the Hottage with a bid of filler before hand in the form of the Academy Awards ceremony. Boundless is waaaaay better than Seth MacFarlane

run 1:17:00 [4]

Didn't feel like getting pushed around by the trails again and so decided to do mega hills today. First over to K2 and then back up the Monarch trail to Artaban where Trix and I polished off 6 before callin' it a day.

Climbing 30:00 [2]

With Turbo and Madeline. Madeline was my guide and teacher. She's like a spider the way she climbs

Note

SULPHUR SPRINGS! Saturday May 25. 13 weeks away.

I have just registered two teams under dontgetlost.ca. One is in my name and one is in Patrick's (why Patrick? Dunno). We currently each have a team mate named "tbd tbd" as place holders for the remaining 7 runners. I will send a final roster to Joe Hewitt a week or so before the race.

The record we set last year is 11:48. We will break that this year. As dog is my witness. The idea of having an geezer team and a puppy team has lost traction. We will come up with some other way of splitting this, but Balogna suggests trying to match the teams as much as possible and have a good old fashioned race of it. I like that idea.

I am willing to do preliminary roster assignments, but would very much appreciate at least one other person to share this delicate burden with me. For now, I just need to get a sense of who's in. We have 16 spots, so if you think you can run a sub-90 minute 20k lap, just sign up. If you know of folks who are not on AP, reach out to them (I'll send a note to Tarno, Katey Mac and Al) There's plenty of room.

Cost for each team was $315--basically $39 per person. Any prizes won by either team will be donated to ARK.

run 1:40:27 intensity: (25 @1) + (26:10 @2) + (51:03 @3) + (19:14 @4) + (3:35 @5) 7.63 mi (13:10 / mi) +301m 11:44 / mi
ahr:129 max:170

Good natured run around the snowcrete park. Skunk Hollow was particularly treacherous, but the hill down from the Bruce Trail to the Hottage gave up the best smack down of the day, taking PH down without a fight.

run hills 45:00 [5]

6 times artaban. Skunk hollow too treacherous to even try without spikes.

Wednesday Feb 20, 2013 #

Sea kayaking 29:00 [3]

Another nice post run paddle with Balogna.
6 AM

run 40:16 [3] 3.84 mi (10:29 / mi) +7m 10:26 / mi

Easy run down the beach and around the run down Club Med compound.

Tuesday Feb 19, 2013 #

7 AM

run 1:00:04 [5] 6.66 mi (9:01 / mi) +6m 9:00 / mi

TNT on the beach. Set my watch for 4 minute intervals with one minute easy jogging in between. Did that 8 times in the soft sand.
10 AM

SUP 20:00 [3]

Super stable board. More like a narrow raft. Slightly choppy seas, but only got tossed off twice.
11 AM

Sea kayaking 40:00 [2]

Best log this as a 2 because Balogna is pretty sure she did all the work. Whatevs.

Monday Feb 18, 2013 #

run 31:00 [3]

Treadmill workout. Steady 6 kph starting at 4%. Adding 1% every 2 minutes all the wy to 15%. Then back to 10% slowly.
6 AM

run 1:10:28 [3] 7.08 mi (9:57 / mi) +8m 9:55 / mi

Wild run out in the surf. Heavily into the wind for 37 minutes and then sailed back in 29. Fueled by Fun and Mumford and Sons. Laird tunderin jayzuz, I have to run with music more. Especially when running on a beach that will not end.

Elliptical 10:00 [3]

Pulled my back right at the si joint just as we were headed to the airport. Thought it was pretty severe, but it loosened up a bit yesterday and I slept we'll under the tropical fans last night. Elliptical was my first tst and felt things loosening up so off to the beach...

run 57:10 [3] 5.55 mi (10:18 / mi) +7m 10:15 / mi

And what a beach it is. 13 miles of soft sand. Started slo, but gradually got up to pace and ran well. Whew, think I dodged a bullet.
11 AM

Cycle 30:00 [2]

Fat tire cruiser mission to get bottle of fizzy water and fresh fruit.

Friday Feb 15, 2013 #

run 43:00 [3]

Family loop with special guest appearance by Katey Mac and Mikey in his debut run since nearly bleeding out 6 weeks ago.

Note

Katey Mac is at the hottage for the next 5 days and so SMT can still happen, but just text her is your coming. She's also willing to host the big TV debut of that show on bondage or whatever it is.

run hills 56:00 [5]

Hardest workout in Hamilton this morning. Callin' it. 5 times Artaban, but the game is to define one set as the entire round trip starting at the bottom all the way up and back to the bottom and then to TRY to go a bit faster every loop. This was my first try at this latest Prisoner of Artaban innovation and I kinda sucked at the pacing

lap 1- 5:45
2- 5:48
3- 5:47
4- 5:56 (a PH loop; I must have stopped caring)
5- 5:47

This is problematic if you have a quick first loop. Finish with skunk tempo, which is now paved entirely in broken snowcrete.

Wednesday Feb 13, 2013 #

run 46:00 [3]

Family loop after work to celebrate the fact that there is still
Daylight when I get home. Trails are frozen and it's like running on broken concrete.

Tuesday Feb 12, 2013 #

Note

One of the more compelling adverts re health and fitness I have ever seen. With aging, but healthy, parents on both my side and Joany's, this made me mist over.

run intervals 55:00 [5]

Shlushnatos. 30 x 45 seconds. majorly tough.

Sunday Feb 10, 2013 #

8 AM

run 1:30:39 [3] 10.82 km (8:22 / km) +246m 7:31 / km

Exact same route as yesterday, step for step, but without snowshoes this time. The main loop is cruising hard pack, but any of the other trails are all still pretty fluffy. Flailed around quite a bit, but lovely to be out there.

Saturday Feb 9, 2013 #

Snowshoe Raid 2:00:15 intensity: (6:25 @2) + (1:19:50 @3) + (19:00 @4) + (15:00 @5) 10.49 km (11:28 / km) +245m 10:16 / km
ahr:132 max:150

Crazy amazing beautiful day in the valley. Total swing and a miss for Zoolander who chose a hangover and a girly run on Lakeshore instead of 2 hours of snowshoeing in 2 feet of fresh pow on a blue bird day.

I struggled behind Turbo and Hansel, dogged by a bit of a cold. Or maybe I was just slow. The quadrapeds had a ripping good time and were thoroughly, er, pooched by the time we came in from the cold.

Friday Feb 8, 2013 #

Note

Snowshow SMT if we can get everyone equipped. Turbo, you're set right? Hammer, are you in BC or are you stuck here? Either way, could we get any SShoes you have for those who might want to giv snowshoe running a try rather than post holing for 2 hours?

Thursday Feb 7, 2013 #

run hills 48:00 [5]

5 artabans and a skunk tempo on the way out. This is no foolin' around.

Wednesday Feb 6, 2013 #

run 40:00 [3]

Fine little familty run around the little loop.

Tuesday Feb 5, 2013 #

run intervals 55:00 [5]

4 times forest loops at Churchill before it got too dark. Then 2 two km intervals with Duane running away with the show.

Sunday Feb 3, 2013 #

8 AM

run 1:29:13 intensity: (25:08 @2) + (44:27 @3) + (18:23 @4) + (1:15 @5) 8.83 mi (10:06 / mi) +295m 9:09 / mi
ahr:129 max:162

Sunday tour with Turbo and Dr. PBV. Pretty morning. No further turkey encounters.

Saturday Feb 2, 2013 #

run 1:40:00 [3]

Fine SMT with Dr. PBV, Turbo and Hammer (except Hammer dropped us like a hot rock as soon as we encountered Balogna). Feeling good and looking forward to ramping up the distance over the next few months. Dr. PBV is actually putting on some speed. Kinda sneaky like. Gonna keep an eye on him.
