run hills 42:00 [5]

4 times artaban, then all the way down and tempo up skunk hollow for the finale. This week begins the ramp up for Italy. Lots of climbing and descending. So new rules for Prisoner of Artaban mornings. The set isn't complete until you run BACK down to the Monarch trail. So up hard, turn around at the stone piller, then bomb the downhill until it gets steep. Oomph.

Aviary loop relays. Nearly lapped Turbo and Dr. PBV. Woulda for sure, but they panicked and began cutting corners. Geez guys, it's not like it was a race.

run 1:21:00 [4]

Killer run with Katey Mac and Trix. Epic battle between Trix and an adolescent deer. The deer would have none of this canine terrorism and gave as good as it got. The to and fro went for 10 minutes around Skunk Hollow, down to the stream and back up Artaban to Maple Wood. Finally, feeling that she had made her point the deer eventually shrugged and bolted. Damnedest thing I've seen in a long time. Trix came back with a bit of a hoarse cough from all the pointless damn fool barking.

run 1:45:00 [3]

Tasty classic SMT with Bender, Hammer and Turbo. H and T are still at the early days of 2013 training and so cut out early after taking the "right" way around K2. B and I kicked it up a notch for the last half hour and finished with a right clippy Skunk Hollow and Danish Hill. Nice.

run hills 40:00 [4]

4x artaban. Still heavy from my brush with fatal illness, but largley better. Looking forward to SMT on Sat. Bender, you gonna come by and rescue those festering shoe carcasses that are mouldering in our garage? We've tried bio-containment but we're not sure the shields can hold up much longer.

run 40:00 [3]

Slow, but bracing, jog with the family around the family loop. All 3 of us managed the -16 just fine.

Note

Dr Internet has diagnosed me with the norovirus. Violent and nasty. No TNT for me tomorrow. Which is being moved to Churchill park. Called it.

run 1:02:00 [4]

tempo run around the main loop with Trix. Twice up K2. Felt good after 3 hours in the car. Wild weather up at Collingwood. Crazed white outs on the way down. Get to the 401 and zip. All clear. No snow whatsoever in the valley. Nice and crisp though.

Skate Skiing 1:08:00 [3]

15k xcountry ski with balogna for the first time in, like, a decade. Conditions were patchy, but surprisingly mangeable. Big gomer fall 200 meters from the chalet.

Tempo run with trix around the little loop and up Unnamed

run hills 38:00 [4]

4 times artaban with Trix. Still a bit cautious on account of my blood doped knee, which I swear to god I've never done and if anyone thinks I have they're lyin', thievin' varmint no goods. Their families too.

Tuesday Jan 15, 2013 #

run 55:00 [3]

tnt with Katey Mac and Sara. Just jogged it while I continue to test my knee. No issues.

run 40:00 [3]

Standard family run loop with Trix. First test of the knee. No problem. Seems just fine. So the PRP did no harm, which is good. I'll continue to go easy on my knee for the next week or so.

Platelet Rich Plasma is an interesting technique. They take some of your own blood centrifuge it down to what looks like a few cc's of chicken stock and then inject it into the knee capsule (or wherever the injury happens to be). Painless. They throw a bit of anesthetic into the knee before the injection. Didn't feel a thing.

As to whether it works or not, that's going to be difficult to report. The knee wash't really hurting. I definitely have a torn meniscus, but it had gone a-symptomatic. So this is really just a shot at doing what I can to make sure the tear doesn't get worse and actually heals. And the success rate for PRP is pretty high. So this was in investment in trying to keep injury at bay.

Cycle 30:00 [2]

Easy spin to start getting more movement into my knee.

Thursday Jan 10, 2013 #

Note

PRP injection this morning. So no strenuous activity for 72 hours. that means I'm a scratch for Friday Night Heights and SMT. The Hottage can still be command central for SMT if folks are so inclined. And, hey, I gotta go to Domestique after.

Family cleats on the Balogna circuit (which includes Unnamed Hill).

run intervals 1:10:00 [5]

First tnt of the year. D Bag looks faster than ever, Katey Mac is officially faster than me (which means the natural order of things has been re-established) and AG! is getting set to take her place at the front of the group. Holy mackerel. Where'd she come from?

6 pumphouse loops with the hillus horribilus every other go. Tough one for me today.

run 1:27:00 [3]

easy going run with Katey Mac and Trix. Mikey is on the injured list having cut his paw out in the back woods yesterday.

Climbing 30:00 [2]

Entry level ropes course with Hammer, PH and Katey Mac. H and I cowered together as we shared fits of злорадство, or, as it is sometimes referred to: 幸灾乐祸. But the controlled setting of Gravity made this a total funhead thing. The big star was Katey Mac, who threw off a 5.7 as if it were a ladder. The rest of us struggled with anything approaching 5.6.

Forearms are messed. But in a good way. Will do once a week for the next bit. Next proposed climb time is Friday after work--say 7pm. You know, Friday Night Heights.

run 1:40:00 [3]

SMT with Bender. PH started with us, but he still has The Plague and so told us to leave him for dead. K2 from sea level was tough and bender got the better of me, so i dogged it until we got back to skunk hollow, saw that he had mentally checked out, and then took off. Just another friendly morning on the Deeve.

run hills 45:00 [5]

4 times artaban and a tempo back up skunk hollow. time to start thinking about maybe going perhaps to 5 times artaban.

Note

Behold The Waffler and his sidekick Batter.

Note the evil Mould Head plotting his next move. His protective goggles are hiding a second set of eyes, the purpose of which remains mysterious.
