Easy loop. Still feel like I weigh 30 pounds more than I used to.

Monday May 30, 2016 #

Gym 55:00 [4]

An easier one. Helped get the kinks from the relay out.

Note

Relay recap.
Well, that was harder than we thought. Especially for a few of us. But, before we get too blamey excusey on the the heat, know that Daven Oskving knocked off the full 100 miles yesterday in 15:33:34. A new course record. Genetic freakery aside, there was no way we winter runners were going to have an optimal go of it when it was just shy of the boiling point of water and 700% humidity (Wes’ estimate and so it must be true). So here are the results run through my Big Data Excel Number Cruncher (BDENC).

Robin and I are going to submit a scientific paper on the performance degradation inherent to being the last runner on the first hot day of the year. Robin is going to submit a further paper on “in-race training” where the first half of the race is the total amount of training he does for the second half of the race.

Dan Pauls! The fastest time of the day for all three teams and the only one to go negative on the heat penalty (by the way, BDENC blows up when trying to work out the strange phenomenon of “negative time”.)

Many, many thanks for making this a pleasure to put together! It’s a great reason to get a bunch of really good people together who are also really good trail runners. Next year? For sure. Oh, but no more race organizer’s sacrifice. Whatever team I’m on? I’m running first. I’m looking at you Al.

last leg of the relay. A hot day and a really tough run for me at the end of it all. It started off well...too well. My first kilometre was 3:50. Do I take that as a signal of amateur stupidity? Nah. I blow past Anvil and carry on. Hey, it's hot, but I got this. Except that once my heart rate hit 160, I could never get it below that danger point. It was all I could do to crawl up the hill in the end.

Still! A fabulous day. It would be interesting to hear from the others wearing GPS watches because this was not a full 20 k.

Final dry run of the Sulphur loop with Turbo, DUG and Katey Mac, replaced by Mike Murray half way. DUG looks strong. If he gets the pacing right, that lad will smoke the course.
