run hills 33:00 [4]

Three artaban half pipes

Monday Jan 30, 2017 #

Gym 1:00:00 [4]

Still not up to full strength. Tweaked my left hammy doing kettle bell swings. Should be ok, but that caused us to dial things back further.

run 58:00 [3]

Still sluggish, but that gave me the mental space to appreciate more fully my latest audiobook: Shoedogs. By Phil Knight, it's the story of how Nike came to be. Knight is a beautiful writer. Wry and honest. Best business book/biography I think I've ever listened to.

run 1:10:00 [3]

Slow trudge around the valley. Good to be out, but no jam.

Gym 1:00:00 [4]

I'm gonna live! After running farther and faster and higher and LONGER than almost anyone else at the Snowshoeless Raid, I was immediately felled by an invasion of the rhinovirus body snatchers. I haven't taken a day off work in living memory. Monday: pretty much in a slimy coma at home in bed. But, each day a bit better and today back to exercise for the first time. Immediately winded. I wonder if this is what my geriatric years will feel like. Conor was kind enought to throttle things back a notch. And wipe down extra thoroughly behind me.

run race 3:21:00 [5]

Snowshoeless raid with DD. Heads down for me as I just tried to stay with Christian. Had a major spike advantage going up the first climb, but after that, it was all about managing the pace so that I didn't have to rope in. And I survived! We were comically late to finish and lost 630 points, but it was a blast! DD navigated with confidence and skill. Great to watch.

Gym 1:00:00 [4]

Easier go of it at the gym to rest up for the big raid tomorrow.

three full artaban half-pipes

Sunday Jan 15, 2017 #

run 1:04:00 [4]

Around the main loop at a good clip, with some effort up any hills in the way. Huge moments: two separate sightings of two different pileated woodpeckers. Those birds are astounding. Magnificent hang bangers.

Saturday Jan 14, 2017 #

run 1:32:00 [3]

Good run with DD and ARXers. Trails in buff shape.

run intervals 46:00 [5]

12 circumcanturburies. So not right to be running in 10 degree weather.

Tuesday Jan 10, 2017 #

run hills 50:00 [4]

four half pipes on artaban. The Merrell spikes are full on wunnerful. And waterproof in this slush.

Gym 55:00 [5]

Lost the weekend of running because I was feeling so gutshot, but ddin't cave and turn my AP purple. I don't need anyone's pity. Back at it today with Conor.

Saturday Jan 7, 2017 #

run 1:10:00 [3]

not feeling all that well, so a short, chilly run in the valley

Friday Jan 6, 2017 #

Gym 1:02:00 [5]

10 reps heavy, 18 reps slightly less heavy, 10 reps heavy, 18 reps slightly less heavy..Arms shoulders lower back. The lower back tweak from Monday has crawled back into its cave. I know it's still in there, but it decided to let me be today.

Thursday Jan 5, 2017 #

run intervals 47:00 [5]

six skunk hollers skittering along on the ice crust.

Tuesday Jan 3, 2017 #

run hills 46:00 [4]

Was going to do intervals, but the trails are a mess. So hills. 3 full half pipe Artabans. The return on the last was via Skunk Holler.

Gym 55:00 [4]

Good first gym session of the year. Cut short by a slight tweak of my lower back. Not serious, but enough to stop.

run 1:00:00 [3]

WoH version 8. Such a fine way to start the new year.

I even got in a full purple loop with Steve, Hammer and Bent. Icy, but no worries: I had my Sith Lord spikes on.

Got home on time to dish out 15 litres of Dutch soup and 30 cups worth of waffle batter, 20 cups worth of which was spiked with 3 pounds of...bacon!. Those are baffles. The process of making Baffles is...wait for it...baffling. Ha. Steve was the Batter fill-in, and I gotta say, he handled himself pretty well under pressure.

If the rest of 2017 has more days in it like this, we'll be fine.
