run 1:35:00 [3]

Nice crisp winter family run with Balogna and T Rix. Radio and TV all abuzz about the killer cold. Come on. It's just not that bad. Or maybe Trix, Balogna and I are actually marvels of unconquerable badness all on our own.

run 2:05:00 [3]

Smt with NP and Frankenjack with periodic guest appearances from Hammer on skis. Nice run. Made it all the way to Farmers field and back. K2 was, as always, a right proper bugger.

run hills 58:00 [5]

four x artaban and then what Balogna calls a whoop,--which is down Artaban and up the other side. Then a brisk run to the orchard, up the main loop, up the Heritage Trail and home via the Bruce. Skipped right by K2, pretty much certain I had done my fair share for the morning. Besides next week I add a climb up K2 from sea level to the Thursday slugfest.

Note

Some lunchtime reading. Orthotics. They seem to work for some, but nobody can say why and what type will work for a given problem. In short, the case is far from proven.

Money quote: "Arches are an evolutionary remnant, needed by primates that gripped trees with their feet. Since we don’t do that anymore, we don’t really need an arch. Why would we? For landing — no need. For the stance phase — no need. For the takeoff phase — no need. Thus a flat foot is not something that is bad per se.” Flat footers: relax.

Balogna and I have been orthotics free for a year now and all seems fine. Certainly the shoes are a lot lighter without all that gunk in 'em.

run 1:05:00 [5]
