Had to get some good ole fashioned deciduous forest air in my lungs.

run 3:04:18 [3] 24.12 km (7:38 / km) +920m 6:25 / km

Last day on the Tahoe rim trail. With today's 15 miles, that makes just under 80 miles of making our way around the top of this beautiful lake. Ghastly incident of the run: Cathy was just running along when zzzzzzt, a bug goes into her ear at the five mile mark. And stayed there. Alive. In her ear. Any serious tilting off her head caused the twilight zone creature to buzz angrily. In her ear.

Nothing we could do would coax that beast out. And so Cathy just ran on, yelling sharply every now and then when the monster in her head buzzed. She put up with this until we got to Reno four hours later where she went looking for an urgent care center. Ick.

Oh yeah, the run. Gorgeous. A five mile climb and then cruisey single track pretty much to the taken out.

5 miles up and then 8 miles worth of gradual descent. Ran it all pretty much as hard as I could with Andy close on my heels. Super cruisey trail. Lots of twists and turns with spectacular views of lake Tahoe popping up at just the right times.

run 4:16:38 [3] 33.89 km (7:34 / km) +745m 6:49 / km

Longest day so far. 22 miles along the North of the lake and down the easterly side. Most of the day was above 8000 feet, but much more level and gradual downhill running. Trails here are smooth, smooth.

run 2:50:56 [2] 18.91 km (9:02 / km) +1005m 7:09 / km

A reduced group for a spectacular run into the national forest. Bologna was a scratch on account of her ankleggedon and Cathy, the retired air traffic controller, decided to rest for a day. That left Tim and me and our hosts, Andy and Kim.

We picked up where we left off for a further 20 miles of the North West side of the Tahoe rim trail. Wellsted team most of the way because it was mainly uphill and rose to 10,000 feet super buff trails, perfect weather. This entry stops at lunch.

run 1:51:43 [3] 12.95 km (8:38 / km) +349m 7:36 / km

Wonderful descent from 10300. Left knee still restricting my gait a bit.

run 2:58:20 [3] 21.31 km (8:22 / km)

First day on the Tahoe rim trail. Absolutely beautiful, conditions perfect, trail buff. Ran well until lunch, first with the group and then primarily with Andy Holak, our host for the week and a fine runner. Stopped at a lovely mountain lake for lunch. Got there before bologna and so watched her hobble in on a severely sprained ankle. Her day was done. A sad turn of events. But she's a plucky one.
4 PM

run 1:11:50 [3] 10.72 km (6:42 / km) +216m 6:05 / km

Andy and his son James decided to ride the last 11 k on mountain bikes. Over lunch we joked about whether a runner had an advantage on mountain terrain. And so it was on. Me against the bikes. Fortunately there was a harsh 3 k climb at 5k. Blew past them and finished well ahead. As is almost always the case with dumb challenges like this, there are consequences. I've hurt my knees, both of them. Will be forced to run more carefully tomorrow.
