run intervals 45:00 [5]

Intervals for the first half, then intensity for the part after Trixy barrelled at a full run into a skunk. We were on the whalebacks. Nice and narrow in there. We're both going full tilt with Rox in front. We crest a hill and bam! Rox rams a skunk.

Everyone was kind of astonished for a second. Then I realized that Rox was between me and the skunk and all of us were on this really narrow trail. I yell STOP to Rox, who is looking like she might want to tangle with this new kind of fur ball. I bash through the woods left to keep the skunk pointed toward me. I then run like stink (ha! see what I did there?) yelling at Rox to come! Come with me! Come this way! which she does.

Our pup took a glancing spray blow, but I realized we now needed to get home and get out the handy de-skunking kit that Balogna had obtained for just this sort of emergency. We got home straightaway and I isolated her in the run, got the deodorizing spray and wet her down with it. Hung out for a few minutes with her so she could dry and then shampooed her in the shower with the de-skunking shampoo. She was much put out, but handled it like a soldier.

Could have been way worse.
