Busy one. First, snatches, my least favourite of the overhead lifts. They make me feel weak and seem designed to amplify my innate awkwardness related to compound lifts. And when watched I self-consciously fall apart. But coaches know all that. And Broder was terrific in staying with me until I got over the jitters and started relaxing into the lifts, keeping the bar closer to me and getting under it faster. Progress.

Then 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 of jumping split squats and dumbbell presses (25 pound, with a switch to 30 for my last 10 just to bury myself good and proper like). Gonna be good-sore tomorrow.

Almost nothing but clean and jerks today.

With coach Mike watching closely, and my new Nike metcons, which make a difference in Olympic lifting, I actually made what I think were some honest to Dog, not bad, clean and jerks, with the full set up, squats and split. Man, that's complicated movement, but today I felt, for the first time, that it may not be outside my capabilities.

With the intimidation gone, now it's just about of trying to keep my wits about me as I go through each of the steps. From there, it's a matter of internalizing, connecting and getting smoother.
