Out early to the area around Mt Coolum National Park for a longer run. Parked at the Marcoola Surf Club and started out on the Coastal Pathway track through lovely coastal forest. Then headed up Mt Coolum, which is a very steep climb on a well-constructed track - lots of stone staircases that proved to be quite taxing on the quads. Lots of walkers on the track so (thankfully) had to stop a few times to let people pass on the way down or to get past people going up. Great views from the top and then a cautious run back down the track. Took a wrong turn at the bottom and inadvertently did a loop through the streets below Mt Coolum, seeing how the other half live. Eventually rejoined the Coastal Pathway and kept heading up the coast to Point Arkwright. Decided to run back along the beach, which seemed like a good diea at the time. But it was close to high tide and a strong headwind and so made for tough and slow running in soft sand. Decided to cut back in to the Coastal Pathway at one stage but found myself in a gated community of millionaire-type houses. An extraordinary oasis of calm with tennis courts, immaculately manicured lawns and hugs houses. Took a bit of tour around the estate as I couldn't find the way out so headed back down to the beach and kept plodding along until I found another pathway back to the right track and made it back to the car. Quite tired and sore for the last few km, but a great run overall. Finished up with a dip in the surf.
