25manna
I decided few hours before the race start that I'm fit for the longer 24th leg which I was assigned for quite some time. I forgot one bag home which contained Voltaren-pills which were supposed to get me through it. I got one Ibuprofein pill from Zeizei which helped a bit. Second problem this bag forgetting led to, was that all of my orienteering clothes were in it. I had only shoes with me (which would've been hard to borrow, even Tuxi and Assu have ½ a number smaller sizes). Got a shirt from Juha P and used my brother's "shorts" and socks.
Before I left out to the woods, I knew that we were dsq. Thus I decided to do a "double or nothing" run.
Half way to #1, some proper orienteer type of guy flew past me. Immediately I thought this was the back to follow. Closer to the cp, I realised he was going way right from the cp. I corrected the direction and found the cp spot on. Few legs of own work and then Halden 2 guy arrived. Because he had "Halden" written on his back, I was sure this was the guy to follow. I managed to stay behind him only 3½ legs, then it got too physical. Then the rest of the way I was more or less on my own. I saw this blue/white Swede here and there but not too much of help from him.
On the way to #11 my back got really bad on a mild down hill. And to top that, I ran way too fast the public control leg (there were too many people cheering!). This led to slow/tired running on rest of the legs. Despite the slow end, I am very pleased about the run. I lost e.g. less than 5min to Tero Föhr and MU's Kale Duck was just ½min faster, eventhough AÖ was sure it would be ten times that (now I know you read this).
Route
I'll write a report to LS-37-site when I have the energy for it. I'll also put pics online some time in near future. They'll include several familiar AP-people.
Edit. And
here they are.
And special thanks to news agency Moisku for cheering, yet again!
