Wasn't quite sure what to expect. Last real fast run was Kuivanto and it went well but it was a month ago. After that I've done more or less hours and not high intensity trainings. I would've been happy with under 30min time.
It started all too well. My legs had rocket engines and I had to restrain myself a lot. At the Sammalsuonkatu uphill I just couldn't hold back and I was quickly making a gap to everyone. At the top I had to stop due to crossing cars and the guys almost catched me. For the rest of the first lap the feeling was great but as the second one started a massive stomach cramp hit me. At this point Assu took the lead and I had great difficulties to follow him. At the third lap's climb I was maybe 8-10s behind him and Jape and Hämis had sneaked right behind me. Then the stomach cramp ended, suddenly Assu was closing and the foot steps behind fading. For a moment I tried to catch Assu but he had something in reserve.
Over 2½min improvement to my record (last March) so I have to be happy. But winning Assu was so close that I'm not 100% satisfied. Oh well, there's plenty of time for that at Sylvester.
Edit. I just analyzed the GPS-data and realised that on 2nd/3rd lap I lost 24s/16s on a single uphill. And it's only ~400m long and 35m high.. Maybe the first lap's 3'37 km-pace was a bit too much..
