Orienteering race (SA sprint champs) 16:31 [3] 3.0 km (5:30 / km)
spiked:19/19c shoes: Inov8 Flite 195

Great map and area for a sprint championships. Had been spending a lot of time on google earth trying to work out the intricacies of the area. Seemed to work in the end.

3-4: Slight mistake of about 20 seconds going the wrong way.
7-8: Some people said that the route along the road was faster.
9-10: Still not sure on this one, suppose either side of the building is a 50:50 route choice.

Orienteering race (Western Cape Middle) 53:15 [3] 5.0 km (10:39 / km) +180m 9:02 / km
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

Had a shocker of a race. Was extremely hot early in the afternoon (not sure what I selected my start time as but I am sure that I was trying for late). Rushed to the start and had to start immediately.

6: Went along the road (straight would have been better) and also overran it and ended up in the second open area.
7: Bit of a search for this control, but it was awesome to know where it was for the long :)
10: Extreme search. Very difficult to pick out the clearing in what seemed to be countless clearings in the actual forest. Kept relocating using the road, earth bank and indistinct path but it seemed to be more of a grid search.
13: Again an extreme search. Not sure what I did in the end. Kept relocating off the ride but was still not able to find it. Should have spent about 15-30 seconds to relocate properly and make sure that I found it, instead of floundering around.
16: Tried to use the rocky features in the open area to see how far I needed to go down which would have been great if they had been mapped. Stopped short and lost a bit of time.
17: I think that I made a route choice mistake. Rough open had a lot of undergrowth and was extremely slow going (not marked on the map). Ended up walking most of the way.

Orienteering race (The Wilds) 24:10 [3] 2.7 km (8:57 / km) +180m 6:43 / km
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

Didn't have the greatest race. Couldn't keep map contact and read ahead. Ended up making 3 big mistakes on the longer legs. WIll hopefully do some technical O training sometime this week to get back into things. Semi-urban O is a bit of a shock to the system.

Was also stung by something really nasty, still not sure what it was... Pain has gone into my muscle. Either it wasn't a wasp, or it was a wasp that was a lot bigger than the one that bit Nic.
