Race (Wenatchee Stage 3) 3:10:00 [5] 70.0 mi (2:43 / mi)

Wenatchee Omnium Stage 3 - 102 Mile Road Race

Josh and I were all set and excited to be getting our first 100 mile ride of the year in... That was not to be. It was crazy fast from the gun with attacks flying and cross/tail winds blowing. Josh was deposited out the back in the first 5-10 miles. I hung on and managed to make my way into the lead chase group once a group of 6 or so managed to break off the front. The pace was relentless. I managed to stay with the chase for most of the first lap, but with about 4 miles to go from the start/finish I had to back off and go my own way. I found a group of 5 others to pace with for the 2nd lap. It was still a strong pace, but I figured it would be good training so I fought to stay with them even though I didn't feel great. It started sprinkling midway through the 2nd lap and when we turned back towards the start finish we could see what lay ahead... DARK OMINOUS CLOUDS... YAY! Not long after, we got dumped on. I couldn't see and it got miserable really quick. The last 15 miles was a death march to get back and abandon the race. By the time the start finish came around, the rain had backed off, but I was frozen stiff and had no motivation to go back towards all that misery. Only 11 riders finished the day, and several of the GC contenders even had to give up when faced with hypothermic conditions. We were just under dressed.

Race (Wenatchee Stage 1) 40:00 [5] 10.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Wenatchee Omnium Stage 1 - Mass start 4 mile Hill climb

Josh and I got to the race plenty early and rode most of the climb for warmup. It was grueling from the gun. I managed to hang on for the first 5 minutes before I had to settle in at my own pace. Josh hung on a little longer, but I caught him by the top. I think I finished 22nd out of 37... Not great but all I could muster.

When we got back to the car there was a $100 parking ticket waiting for us. The ranger was lurking and waiting for the racers to leave before going around and passing out tickets. I tried to reason with him to let us pay the $10 fee, but he insisted that once the ticket was written there was nothing he could do about it... even though he still had the only copy. DOUCHE BAG!

Race (Wenatchee Stage 2) 1:20:00 [5] 35.0 mi (2:17 / mi)

Wenatchee Omnium Stage 2 - 70 Min Crit

The course was a basic 4 corner, but there was a slight climb and descent each lap to make it a little interesting at least. Short course though with most of our laps at or under 1 min. It was fast from the gun and the attacks were flying. A group of 4 managed to get away in the first 10 min and eventually lapped the field. I was struggling at first, but once I got comfortable again moving around in the pack it was just like old times. I really miss crits and being able to shoot the gaps and move fluidly through the pack. I was mostly on the limit, but managing OK so I kept up towards the front of the race the whole time. On corner 4 of the 2nd to last lap, 2 guys bumped shoulders and had to unclip to keep from going down right in front of me. I braked pretty hard and the effort to get back up to the font ensured I wouldn't be contesting a top 10 finish. Still managed 16th.

Recovery (Road Ride) 45:00 [1] 12.0 mi (3:45 / mi)

Easy spin while the car was getting lubed up for the trip!

Intervals (Road Ride) 1:30:00 [4] 27.0 mi (3:20 / mi)

Hit up the Big Bend climb for some SOB repeats to get some muscle tension work in before Wenatchee this weekend.

8 x 2+ min SOBs

18 min total muscle tension workout

Felt pretty good. My new chain is skipping of course so I can only use the 16, but since I'm doing overgear work no big deal. Definitely felt the effort so it was good.

Hard Endurance (Spin Class) 1:00:00 [4] 18.0 mi (3:20 / mi)

Good hard all round spin class. 10 min over/under, 6 min climb with surges, and 1,2,3,2 pyramid to finish off a hard hour.
