Orienteering race 1:26:03 [3] *** 8.5 km (10:07 / km)
13c shoes: X-Talon 212

I came into this expecting to take it pretty easy, with an eye on tomorrow. I took it pretty slow, and so I didn't take too many mistakes. 11 is the only one I had some trouble with, but no more than 30 seconds lost. Erin told me I didn't have to finish the final loop because I wasn't going to affect the scoring, so I decided to come in early and save myself a little.

Walking/jogging the model

Orienteering race (NAOC 2016 Middle) 35:55 [3] 4.6 km (7:48 / km) +155m 6:41 / km
shoes: X-Talon 212

I felt pretty good this morning when I alternated walking and jogging the model. At the start my goal was to have a clean race, but I started out pretty fast and felt good enough to hold it. Michael Svoboda caught up with me kinda early on, but I caught back up later after he dropped me. Later he ran past the fastest trail to 12 that I hit, so I felt really confident at that point. I messed up 13 and had to relocate, losing ~2 minutes, which kinda sucks because that's the only mistake I made. I wish I could see the splits, but they're not up yet. I ended up in 3rd, which I was happy with considering my shape, but I was only 30 seconds down on first so that put a bitter note on it.

Made the journey up to Boston this morning. I went out for a nice little jog-a-roo around Barb's house, with some maps in hand. I brought a real rough map of the MIT campus for the tiny portion that I ran through, and then I did the 2016 Sprint Camp map from Magazine Beach in o-terval style. It's a really easy map and I'd been there before, but my speed was alright so it was good to do.

It rained it the morning, so the trails were damp which was actually pretty nice. I felt alright, which was nice. Hopefully at this point my body is remembering how to run a little bit better. I threw in one surge about ¾ of the way through the run, and felt alright doing that too.
