Yoga/Stretching (stretching) 20:00 [1]

Wednesday Apr 29, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 1:50:00 [3] 20.0 mi (5:30 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: Thunder Mountain, Utah. Ugh. I felt awful. Very winded while climbing (though being at 8000 ft probably contributed) and no mojo on the descent. Legs tender from the hike yesterday.

Yoga/Stretching (stretching) 20:00 [1]

Tuesday Apr 28, 2009 #

Hiking 1:50:00 [2] 5.0 mi (22:00 / mi)

Route: Angel's Landing, Zion National Park Utah. Out and back that gains 1500ft in 2.5 miles. Nice change from the bike though the quads not used to eccentric work. I'm guessing I'll be sore tomorrow!

Monday Apr 27, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 1:30:00 [3] 11.0 mi (8:11 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: Bootleg Canyon, Nevada. A very uninspired tour of the trails. I felt very strong when climbing but overall unmotivated. Obviously need a day off the bike.

Sunday Apr 26, 2009 #

Strength (core) 10:00 [3]

A quick ATW, only 15-20 reps. Felt like I hadn't done ATW for awhile!

Cycling 3:00:00 [3] 20.5 mi (8:47 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: Gooseberry Mesa, Utah. Slow tech singletrack with lots of small grunts but no sustained climbing. Basically did ALL the trails to try to get a 20 mile ride in. Felt like I had 90% power in the legs which was great, but was not enough for the steepest slick rock pitches. Upper body felt good and strong considering all the bike wrestling involved. Ibuprofen count = 0.

Saturday Apr 25, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 3:15:00 [3] 26.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: Hurricane Rim Trail - Gould's Rim Trail - JEM Trail near Hurricane Utah. Felt slightly beat up by end, not super motivated today but still enjoyed the fast flowy trails. Back was sore but was probably related to carrying a fully stuffed pack. Ibuprofen count = 2.

Yoga/Stretching (stretching) 20:00 [1]

Rest day today, driving through Bryce Canyon and Zion.

Thursday Apr 23, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 5:00:00 [3] 41.4 mi (7:15 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: Moab - UPS - LPS - Porcupine Rim - Moab. Climbed up even higher today to be able to drop into UPS. Required around 17 miles of up. Tough, considering it's only ~4K ft elevation gain. Pretty baked by the end mostly from sun/heat, but not too fatigued. Left hamstring just starting to get some crampy twinges by the end. Took 4 of my French Canadian friends with me today...hope they don't hate me! Ibuprofen count = 2.

Yoga/Stretching (stretching) 20:00 [1]

Wednesday Apr 22, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 2:45:00 [3] 14.7 mi (11:13 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: Poison Spider and Portal Trail. Shorter ride today but with many very hard efforts. Definately able to put on the gas when needed...nice. LOVE the technical descending on Portal! Ibuprofen count = 0.

Yoga/Stretching (stretching) 20:00 [1]

Tuesday Apr 21, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 4:30:00 [3] 31.0 mi (8:43 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: Moab - Hidden Valley Trail - Moab Rim Trail - Amassa Back - Moab. Quads and glutes tender today. Did not have much gas for hard efforts but overall wasn't in too bad of shape. Back felt quite good today. Ibuprofen count = 2, only because I was getting a bit achy by end of ride.

Yoga/Stretching (stretching) 20:00 [1]

Monday Apr 20, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 4:30:00 [3] 35.0 mi (7:43 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: Porcupine Rim loop from town with additional climb up to LPS. Felt good on the climb, which was ~14 miles. This ride also was a good test of the endurance of the "descending muscles". Everything felt good except for neck and back. Ibuprofen count = 6. The Spot is fantastic at speed...very stable.

Yoga/Stretching (stretching) 20:00 [1]

Sunday Apr 19, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 1:00:00 [2]

Bike: Spot. Route: NE woods, Comox. Easy cruise of the local singletrack.

Sunday Apr 12, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 2:40:00 [3]

Bike: Spot. Route: Cumberland. Technical XC ride with the locals. I felt okay on the big climb. Lots of short hard efforts that were starting to wear on me by the end. The new bike is ~4lbs heavier so hard to gauge if I'm feeling sluggish or if it's the extra weight.

Saturday Apr 11, 2009 #

Ski (skate) 1:20:00 [3]

Skate skiing at Mt. Washington. 20 min warm-up, ~2hrs of biathlon practice (a bit of skiing, mostly shooting), followed by 60 min skate with big time climbing.

Ski (tele) 1:00:00 [3]

Spring skiing conditions at Mt. Washington = hero snow! Legs felt pretty strong considering I haven't been on tele skis in a long time.

Wednesday Apr 8, 2009 #

Cycling 12:00 [5]

Tabata sprints on spin bike. 20 sec on, 10 sec off, x8 plus warm up and cool down. Love it! I did not feel too horrendous considering I feel a bit under the weather in general today and might be fighting some bug off (could explain the fatigue of last two days).

Strength 6:38 [4]

50s workout.

Cycling (road) 1:00:00 [2] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Bike: Spot. Route: urban. First shake-down ride of new mtn bike. Easy spin to Colonnade, some skills work, and easy spin back.

Tuesday Apr 7, 2009 #

Yoga/Stretching (yoga) 1:00:00 [2]

Mellow class which was nice. But legs are definately fatigued...not so fun trying to hold lunge poses.

Strength (Core) 15:00 [3]

ATW, 20 reps. Feel like I should increase frequency of this to 2-3x/week as I feel like I'm losing core strength, not maintaining or gaining.

Cycling (road) 38:00 [2] 8.2 mi (4:38 / mi)

Commuted to and from work. Legs tired. Similar to yesterday, I got very tired in afternoon. Decided against trying to do a 2-3 hr ride.

Monday Apr 6, 2009 #

Cycling (road) 1:40:00 [2] 21.5 mi (4:39 / mi)

Bike:Jake. Route: Shoreline to work in morning, work to Shoreline in afternoon. Neck was sore from yesterday. Legs not too fatigued. Started feeling less perky ~40 min into ride back up to Shoreline and had clammy/shaky feeling again.

Sunday Apr 5, 2009 #

Cycling (road/dirt) 4:50:00 [2] 59.5 mi (4:52 / mi) +1500ft 4:46 / mi

Bike: Jake with knobbies. Route: home to Redhook (~20 miles), Thrilla loop (dirt, ~20 miles, ~1500 ft elev), Redhook back home (~20 miles). Overall, felt really good. Couldn't crank up the first two steep hills on start of Thrilla but felt strong for rest of climbs. Final 20 miles back home felt surprisingly good. A sore neck was the only noticeable thing the next morning.

Saturday Apr 4, 2009 #

Cycling (dirt) 3:30:00 [3] 10.0 mi (21:00 / mi) +3000ft 16:21 / mi

Bike: Flux. Route: Mt. Constitution, Moran State Park. The ride was supposed to be ~17 miles, ~3hrs ride time but snow at higher elevations forced us to shorten ride. (10 miles was an estimate - not sure of ride stats). ~ One hour was spent hike-a-biking in snow, so not much bike time in the end. Bike time was mostly spent climbing (Mt. Pickett and much of Mt. Constitution) with some good sustained steep granny gear stuff. Was okay on that but lacked power/strength to get up short super steep pitches.
