Bike to cp 5 and 6 with DML. It would be awesome having this park in my backyard. Trails are lots of fun to rip.
The Sound was very calm and could easily have been paddled if we had more time.

ahr:142 max:177 slept:7.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

2020 Wildlands 8 hr AR with DML and Rob Hillman from the NHTrailVets.

Prologue start to pick up varying value controls which had to total 24 pts. We opted for D, E, F, G, H. Briefly questioned our selection when we say Matt and his team choosing the (2) 10 pt options but cooler heads prevailed and we stuck to our plan which ended up being faster.

Kayak 1:11:00 [3] 5.7 mi (4.8 mph)

Paddle to 5 controls with DML and Rob in the tandem and me in the solo. Boat speeds weren't even close. Caught a glimpse of Strong Machine on the OAB to 3 and they were hot on our heels. Opted to run from 4 to 5 along the pipeline which was a good call.

9 AM

Mtn Bike 55:00 [3] 9.6 mi (10.5 mph)

Bike to the bike drop picking up 2 cps along the way.
10 AM

Trek 2:49:00 [3] 8.4 mi (20:07 / mi)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

Beat the TA crew to the drop and they had to run to meet us which made me think we were ahead of the pace set by the teams from the day before.

New map at bike drop. Selected a CCW route and set out. Ran into Strong Machine riding in as we were heading out.

Fun area but a little slow due to the fact that it had been logged within the last 10 years so the debris on the floor was thick. Only issue was the swamp controls where we spent some time looking on the wrong side of the creek. Once Rob figured that out we waded across to CP14 and backtracked to CP15. We heard some voices in the woods and suspected we may have been passed by Strong Machine but when we arrived at the TA they indicated we were still ahead of them.

1 PM

Mtn Bike 2:03:00 [3] 14.1 mi (6.9 mph)

We felt we had been moving well all day and that there was a good chance we could clear the course. We were even more confident at CP17 (summit) with a lot of the remaining climbing out of the way. There was a short hike-a-bike on a hiking trail to CP 18 and bike drops at CP 19, 20, 21. From there it was all downhill on the route we came in on to the finish as the only team to clear it.

Fun to race around the woods again! We kept the pace high all day and ran at every opportunity. My longest run of the year, ha!
