MTBO race 1:58:47 [2] 36.74 km (3:14 / km) +454m 3:03 / km
shoes: Exceed

36.740km with 454m climb in 1:58:47. British long mtbo champs Devilla. 90% better than yesterday but the last 10% was a disaster again. Took opportunity to start early to get a bigger gap on Alistair. Right hand option for 1 and doubled back out for 2. Right hand option for 3 and saw Steve Nicholson on the out and back. Chacing him through 4 and past him going to 5 slowly pulled away 6 and 7. Right hand option for 8 then around lake towards start for 9 surprised Steve right behind me at map flip 10. Not sure how he caught back up. Missed the fact there were parallel paths towards 11 so had Steve go past me on the faster one. Got back ahead through 12 and pulled away going to 13. Left hand for 14 as had looked at the small paths earlier. Straightest for 15 maybe back the way I had come would be better. Felt quick 16 and 17. Small paths looked the best for 18 but were slow and then I missed the turn and the path carried on unmapped. Ended up a full stream too far and had to back out. 3 mins lost? Saw Steve just before 19 reversing out of it I carried on through. After fallen trees into 20 decided for small track exit as only one marked tree and you could bypass it. Ended up with 6 or so unmarked trees. Hit edge of collage and did not see best rout through the finish went small left and carry up steps. Put reading glasses on and decided on longer left loop to avoid potential drop. It was totally blocked by trees and had to back track on other route then realised finish option as I went to finish 2 mins?. Ended up 14 seconds behind Steve. Alistair 5 mins up. Will be interesting to see position at 17.
As expected had a 1 min lead at 17 and threw it all away.

MTBO race 33:54 [2] 7.52 km (4:31 / km) +172m 4:03 / km
shoes: Exceed

7.519km with 172m climb in 0:33:54. British sprint champs. I was useless. Not all all sure going to 5 through technical small paths. Eventually back onto big uphill track and turned in one track too soon 3 sides of square from there and saw Alistair punching it he started a minute after me. Took different route to 7 and got back in front then missed turn for 7 and got on an unmarked path ended up pushing through woods. Confused in small paths again for 11. 3 minutes off the pace.

MTBO race 2:57:30 [2] 61.86 km (2:52 / km) +592m 2:44 / km
shoes: Exceed

61.861km with 592m climb in 3:06:08. Midlands mbo from Quenington (10 miles north of Swindon.) Warm clear skys. Relativly flat quiet roads and some field edge type bridleways. One muddy spot for 50m rest all fast main issue long grass in mech and cassette.

Went anti clockwise which left me pondering the awkward 18 and the group of 3 in sw corner. Not the best order at the end should of reversed out of 4 but the tough going there put me off. Ended up missing 18 but getting the 3 a bit late, just missing 28 and on time would be about where I am at. 3rd Jason just cleared and Edwin with something like 3 early. They were going the other way and 18 / 19 were easy options at the end that way. Of course if 3 or 4 needed dropping then my way may of been better.
