BOSS 4 - Barnsley - 39pts - Line + Score

Ended up taking 3min to get to the first one, absolute woeful reading of the map.
Finished the line course in 30min18sec. From there, i went back over to Barnsley (line finished in The Range side) and did a clockwise-motion. From 215 i went down the steep hill to 233 (where i had started chickening out for about 10sec at the steepness of it, before just going for it and realising that i was making it out to be worse in my head than reality). Skipped the 1pt nearby as i was running out of time. Thought about getting a 1pt and 3pt on the way back but thought that i would be pushing it. So instead opted for a 2pt on a track that i hadn't been on before, 1pt and then finish.

I found that having local knowledge did not really help me. The times that i do come out here, i mainly ride the same tracks in the same direction therefore being on new tracks, or unfamiliar tracks and sometimes coming at controls from different directions threw me off initially. But halfway through the line course i just decided to treat the entire course as though i were new to the area, and it seemed to pay off a bit better.

Running 49:30 [3] 7.45 km (6:39 / km) +342m 5:24 / km
ahr:164 max:186

Usual loop through Glenrock. This time i lead the group, and ended up being one of a few that actually knew the route. This meant that i ran the first 10min at my normal pace, then backed off on the second 10min and walked/jogged about 5min with the tail end. Then i walked/jogged with the tail for pretty much the entire next 10min.
From the picnic table to the bottom of Easy Way Out i ran with Em. Got to the bottom of EWO and noted that i had only been running that hard to keep up with Em, to which she replied that she had only been trying to keep up with me! Vicious cycle!
Then i ran most of EWO and back to the car.
Note: saw a squished snake of some sort on the shitworks road. The saw a baby brown snake slithering across the firetrail just as you leave the picnic table. Clare.W jumped over it and then pointed it out for the rest of us. We were all very polite and allowed it to get off the track before we went past. Then once i got to the bottom of EWO, one guy that arrived a couple minutes after me noted that he had just seen one hanging in a tree not far back.
Perhaps this is the reason why i am not super fast, so that others may scare the snakes away before i get to them :p

Walking 23:07 [3] 2.16 km (10:42 / km) +104m 8:38 / km
ahr:113 max:121

The normal walk into work but this time i turned it into a recovery walk and listened to a podcast (:

Had planned on a walk/jog on my lunch break and then another walk back to the car, but ended up getting absolutely swamped at work and worked through my lunch break and worked back an hour. Steveo came and picked me up and dropped me off at my car (:

SSS13 - Belmont North / Jewells - 34pts

Spent the first minute of my reading time looking at the contours and the best way to avoid them - or at least do as little as possible.
Ended up settling for 2D then around to 2B and then south, across to 3A then from here i thought that i could get through at 2F through the park just north of it, so i changed my route and went 1T > 1D but then realised i couldn't get through but i was only going to get 3pts anyway so just went to 3C rather than 2F + 1E. From there i went down to 1J, across around 3D > 1G > 3E > 2J > 1R > 2C > 1K then legged it up to 2E and made it back to the finish in time.
Geoffrey got me though, but 1pt :( He should have done better than me but he did some silly route choices around 2F as he got caught out like i did.

Overall not too bad. The temperature was certainly better than the past couple of days. My legs were quite fatigued though and the calves a bit tight. Will have to do some serious stretching and possible take it a bit easier tomorrow in readiness for Glenrock on Friday.

Warm up from Bar Beach car park to Merewether Stairs - with Josh and Steveo.

Running 21:16 [3] 0.89 km (23:54 / km) +164m 12:26 / km
ahr:166 max:181

15 x Merewether Stairs.
Did the first 5 right behind Josh, which meant that my rest break at the bottom was the amount of time it took me to pretty much turn around. At 5, Josh went for a bit of a jog and i kept going. Josh was then right behind me.
Once i got to 10, Steveo had finished his 10 and then peer pressured me into another 5. Josh went for a jog whilst we did these (Steveo managed 7 in that time).

Running 10:14 [3] 1.61 km (6:21 / km) +45m 5:35 / km
ahr:171 max:187

Warm down back to Bar Beach car park. Head wind and the hill at Dixon Park were not fun.
We did see Mark Richards coming back from a swim - to be honest i was just excited that i recognised his face as being a sports person (Steveo helpfully supplied the name and sport).

Running 28:20 [3] 4.04 km (7:01 / km) +69m 6:28 / km
ahr:172 max:187

With Steveo. We walked from Merewether Baths around to where the rocks stopped, stashed our thongs and then ran along the sand BAREFOOT until the end of the beach (about 1.5km).
Then we turned around and went back to collect our thongs, being treated to a spectacular light show. After collecting our thongs we then ran over all the rocks (realising they weren't so bad and we should have just ran over them initially) and back to Merewether Baths, up the Stairs and to the car just making it before the rain really ramped up.
That must mean that from Merewether Baths to the last of the rock must be approx. 1km.
