We're far from the Stockholm snowy winter but it's knocking on the door now with 10 degrees and a consideration for heavier clothing. I loved the forest today there in Nackareservatet. Good Autumn trees on a clear calm day. I felt good on the trails having done 25manna yesterday as a winter training race. The O was easy, i had no mistakes on the 7th leg for our second team. I was given out to for passing my three other team mates and not helping them. Odd! I shared codes like other teams did but wasn't going to do more than that. I think my coach was joking but i didn't see him after that so who knows. My ankle held up grand even though it hurts for the first 15mins of every run. It'll take a few months to be 100%. But the bad news is my calves hurt now again.
For the third winter in a row my shins/calves hurt after the first 1-2 weeks of winter running. This tells me two things: 1) It's not due to running too much. 2) They've been given 9 weeks off running last winter in France and never healed, so it's not a serious bone issue. It can however be made 95% pain free with self massage like i did this spring. And i'm at the gym alot which is important for managing this problem. So my idea is to just not listen to the pain and train on as i've wanted to the past two winters. And i'm going to get calf massages in work even though they prefer the massages to be for work related and stress reducing issues. It goes without saying that if the pain becomes really really bad i'll do something about it. But i think i know how to live with it. I'm not backing off for the third winter in a row.
