Swim race (Triathlon - Swim) 15:48 [4] 1.0 km (15:48 / km)
Mine Over Matter Canadian Championship Off Road Triathlon
Got to the race about an hour before Race start. Picked up race kit, set up Transition and headed down to the water. Got about 5 min warm up in at the Quarry Lake in Kelso. Water felt warm but still below 72F which made this a wetsuit legal race. Wore my XTERRA sleeveless suit.
Swim didn't start too great for me as I got kicked and run into as we fought for position in the 1st couple hundred meters. Last year I came out of the water 2nd behind Bechtel and this year there were a few other fast swimmers. I managed to maintain a steady pace and was in 8th out of the water. It was awesome to see Andrea, Kings & Grey cheering at the water edge at the swim exit :)
Mountain Bike race (Triathlon - Bike) 50:58 [4] 18.5 km (2:45 / km)
Got on bike after swim and started out to the trails. I knew I had to make up some ground on the bike. With the overnight and morning rain the course was super slick and muddy. I had my tires at 35psi which I think was too high. Probably should've been around 30psi. First lap was good, managed to pass a few riders but had 2 small crashes on easy sections, just due to the slick mud. On lap 2 I had caught up and passed 2 Pro's only to have them pass me after my 3rd and hardest crash. Went hard into the bushes off the trail. Came out with a scraped knee & 2 bruises on tibia area, and my shifter/brake lever was moved out of position. Thought I was done but hopped back on and leg felt better very soon. Came into T2 and there were those 2 pros still in Transition. I was sitting a good position (1st Age Grouper off the bike)
Run race (Triathlon - Run) 40:31 [4] 8.5 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 2012
Started out with a nice lead on the next AG'er but that didnt' last. At about 2km in I got passed by 2 AG'ers. Frig. The 1st 2km were on easy but hilly gravel path then into the single track Bruce Trail which was very muddy/slick/rocky/roots. The modified the run course from last year so it was a bit more challenging. Maintained a nice 4:30min/km pace which is good for me. Had a few more guys pass me so I dropped back for a 10th overall finish and 1 guy in my AG passed me.
Overall happy with my result.
10/85 overall
2/14 in AG
