Kilmallock 2017

GPS seems to have cut out after bike hit a hole after about 9km. Time kept going, and GPS was fine again afterwards, so not sure why it would cut out completely. Climb was recorded since that's barometric on the Edge.

Headwind on the way out with the bunch moving at a slow enough pace. A small group formed off the front after around 5km. The loose chippings before Ardpatrick were alright. Then decided to bridge across! Made it just before Ardpatrick, thankfully, as the climb increased then. Group worked well on the climb, chap from Clontarf, Limerick and Cork County. The Cork County lad not working as much as the other two.

The lads weren't as strong on the climb through Ballyorgan, it's tough. So I was just off the front of them when a Blarney lad came through so I stuck to his wheel. Shortly afterwards the large main group caught up. I did some work on the front after Kilfinnane, and a lot once back heading uphill again. But even though I was on the front I wasn't pushing, so trying to recover while on the front.

Again through Ballyorgan the Blarney lad pushed the climb, I went with him but the group despite losing maybe a few was still very big. Wasn't too pushed on sprinting so stayed at the back all the way home although moved a bit closer to the front in the last few km but didn't sprint.

Legs felt good for the race but don't think apart from during the break that I exerted myself too much. The break was fun while it lasted but as for the rest of the race it wasn't that interesting.

With John Power out to see if the A3s were coming back. Interesting stories from a marshall, but headed back before they arrived.
