Walk up to the start of today's orienteering event. Mostly walking but last bit uphill I jogged which warmed me up.

Plan for today was to take it easy, make sure that the calves survive. Had a compression thing on my right and a Skins Powersox on my left inside my o-socks!
1st control was handy enough, big lake to go off. Furze was a bit troublesome, especially when you dive headfirst into some.
2, 3 and 4 were all uphill, so not that much fun.
5 was uphill and then downhill running in a marsh all the way.
Then there was 6. Felt like I was going to fall off a cliff and die between 5-6. Didn't know that going straight up the hill was the correct way to go. Instead I was going up and down cliffs, not pleasant. I wasn't the only one who didn't know better.
6-11 was a nice loop, runnable and no problems.
11-12 was back across the cliffy area, chose a route to the right, going downhill, not too bad but probably better to go up and over again, didn't help that I made a right mess of it, overshot too high, lost the best part of 10 minutes based on my Garmin track.
13 looked straight forward but the number of re-entrants with cliffs on both sides between the controls wasn't funny.
14 was ok, but thing control on wrong crag or mapped wrong.
15 wasn't great but no mistake.
Saw a control as I descended on a track and headed for it to realise that it wasn't the finish, so turned right and over a hill before down to the finish.
Happy that I survived. For the record I lost 7 minutes on 6 and 12 minutes on 12 to the fastest split, to Brian Corbett, made the map. 7 minutes to 6 was fair enough but if I hadn't blown 12 by 10 minutes then I'd have had a decent enough split.
Garmin said I ran 8.58km.
