Easy enough up the hill and down the far side, nice pace, felt comfortable. Bit windy on the spin over to training and was starting to regret the minimal amount of gear I was wearing. Did install a rear light before going out, and ended up using it.
After Castlemaine the pace increased but HR was low, so comfortable. Ciaran made a bit of a break, kids these days, no respect. So we caught him just after Fieries. Then Donncha had a go so I tried to chase but the closing level crossing gates stopped us. Had a bit of a wait for the train. Ciaran tore off again, Donncha said you don't chase down your teammates so nothing happened. I was in the lead so tried to increase the pace slightly. After Farranfore the fun started...
...I had dropped back off the front and then Donncha went so I tried to give chase. Couldn't get his wheel, maybe 20m back, he eased up after a small bit but I still didn't have the legs to stay with him. So was on my own and Ciaran was off in the distance somewhere. At the bottom of the climbing lane hill I saw a few cyclists in front, Currow Cycling Club, I could also see a light behind me, thought it was the group i'd left! So that didn't give me much confidence. Went past the Currow lads and further up the hill I was caught, not by the group but by Ken. So we took it in turns then to try and catch Donncha and Ciaran. We almost got there in the end, but were about 100m too short. Average speed from level crossing back to Tralee was 36.6, with a max of 55.1 which wasn't downhill.
