Note

Work open 2 days this week but i've taken them off so another week off. Weather forecast is crap though, another storm on the way, so won't be good training wise.

Monday - Turbo Trainer
Tuesday - Running
Wednesday - Running
Thursday - Turbo Trainer
Friday - Running
Saturday - Running (parkrun, maybe)
Sunday - Turbo Trainer

Might swap a run for some rest if necessary, but will play it by ear. One of those runs I'd like to do on a mountain but given the weather forecast i'd be surprised if that happens.

Turbo Trainer 55:23 [2]
ahr:132 max:147 slept:7.25

Avg Cadence = 85rpm

Cadence seems a bit lower than I would expect but maybe because I used the vivoactive rather than the edge there's a difference, shouldn't be though.

Was tired getting up. Ok on the bike but could probably have tried harder.

Weather outside bad again, think i'll have to run early tomorrow to avoid the orange warning for Storm Frank.

Got Breaking Bad for Christmas so started watching that. S01E01.

Warming up with robrunner and joshosh before the orienteering. Timed it nicely as didn't have long to wait before the mass start. Legs feeling good.

Christmas Fun Event
Fota

Score event, 45 minute time limit with 30 controls

Planned to get the farther ones away to start with and then go for the arboretum to finish off. Worked out ok. Started with Joshosh, he passed me out as I struggled over a fence. So was on his tail for the first few controls, and then he got Dadosh to obstruct me on the way into the 2nd control ;-)

We went the same route through the controls in the forest but I tried a different route along the "beach" which didn't gain me time, lost a few seconds. I got by Joshosh getting out of the forest to cross the field back to the track. Got a bit stuck too. Could hear him behind me on the track as he'd a bell on his shoe!

I went and got 224 which joshosh left for later. Lost some time on 228, the cool cave which was actually some sort of old gun emplacement. Missed it by being too far left and then messing about. My own fault for misreading a fence on the map.

The water between 230 and 231 was dodgy, I didn't end up in it though, managed to keep my feet mostly dry.

Did an anti-clockwise loop around the arboretum then. Lost direction and had to stop for a moment leaving 204, found it confusing. Then continued around the arboretum. Realised when I got to 210 that the code on it was 204, so must have been a mix up on the controls. Not an issue for a score event although there were some extra controls out there not on the map.

Finished to find Nick ahead of me and Josh behind. So not too bad. Happy with how I was feeling running and wasn't at 100%. No leg issues during or after.

Off to the end of the map to get a few controls with Nick and Joshosh. Damp. A few stragglers around the place who may have been late to the controls we were collecting. They were going to be well over time.

Did try and steer one of them back towards the finish in a different direction to the way he was trying to go, it was wrong.

Got a few more controls with Nick and Josh. Getting wetter.

Whitechurch

Belgooly was flooded so race cancelled. So went for a run from home. Was wet but not too bad. Hands were very cold for 10 minutes then warmed up.

Went down to the community centre and did 3 laps of the SlĂ Geal. Think it's just under 1km in length. There are distance markers starting from the cross.

After the laps I went around Dromgarriffe. Can't remember the last time I did that loop. Lot of water on the road. Had to do some wading. And on the way back up the main road there was a lot of surface water. Had to get up on the bank at one point when a car came against me.

Legs tightened up a small bit. Calves later in the run and quad was sore for a moment on Dromgarriffe.

Used the new watch which downloads the activity to garmin connect which in turn is linked to Strava. So a lot of links going on. It did take laps every mile for some reason, must investigate why.

Wet day with a strong wind at CIT. Achilles a bit sore warming up but was ok in time for the off.

Goal Mile 2015
CIT Track

Weather not good so that definitely affected my time, and the lack of training, and company.

Did have company for the 1st lap, he came past me on the back straight but once we turned into the wind on the home straight I was much stronger. Didn't see him again.

They were some inconsistent laps. So not good. Was hard to judge with the wind on the home straight. Knew I was off track though after each 200 as time was 50% rather than 40-45% of target if time was to be made up on the home straight.

Anyways, got it done, and no issues.

Got a tshirt for my troubles too, XL, will have to grow into it.

Track warm up/down 10:25 [2] 1.74 km (5:59 / km)

Did a couple of laps with one of my earliest orienteering minders, Ann Murphy from Blarney. Along with her sister Bernie they would have brought me around orienteering courses when I was very small. Look at me now!

Note
slept:7.0

Goal Mile went ok, 5.15, so a good bit off target but weather wasn't good, wet and windy. Didn't use the tailwind enough but not too worried.

Think i will race tomorrow if it's on. Flooding in Belgooly so will await an update on the race tomorrow.

Got a Garmin Vivoactive off Mary. A smart watch. Will probably incorporate it into my training, probably use it for running training sessions. Looking forward to using it.

slept:7.0 (rest day)

As usual took Christmas Eve off. Didn't have a lie in, had to head into town to collect the keys of the house! Nice Christmas present.

Then home to Cork for dinner.

Did some thinking about pacing for the mile tomorrow. Hopefully I've got the maths right. 74 second laps should be about right for a 5 minute mile. But not too worried.

Still thinking about Belgooly.

Upper Torc

Not quite the usual run but similar. Was tough running this hour of the morning before breakfast. On top of that I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked. Was lacking a bit of energy, particularly uphill.

Right achilles is definitely not doing so well at the moment but wasn't as bad as I expected this morning.

Thought weather conditions would be worse as it sounded windy enough when I was in bed, but not too bad.

Decided not to do the high part of the run and come home a different way. Did that as was in my running shoes and usual track home would be wet and muddy so didn't fancy negotiating that.

Turbo Trainer 59:00 [2]
ahr:149 max:164 slept:7.5

Avg Cadence = 90rpm

Surprised at the cadence, was expecting worse. This was a tough session to complete, really struggled after around 35 minutes. Stopped the clock for a moment to take a breather and give myself a talking to. Not impressed with the body. Can't say there was a reason for the loss of motivation.

Bit of faffing at the start with sound. Decided tv wasn't loud enough so went and got out the headphones, that worked better, could hear the actors then.

GOT S05E10

That's the end of that then, and managed it before Christmas too.
