Turbo Trainer 30:08 [2]
ahr:128 max:138 slept:7.56

Avg Cadence = 90rpm

Cadence not too bad considering legs were feeling tired and found this generally to be a struggle. Really wondering why I am putting myself through this, not torture, but just getting up early.
9 AM

Note

Time to make a plan for the week:

Will for a 3rd week of turbo pre-breakfast.

Monday - Physio
Tuesday - Turbo Trainer
Wednesday - Running
Thursday - *Circuits (forgot i'd signed up for this)
Friday - Turbo Trainer
Saturday - Running
Sunday - Running

This plan is based on my legs being ok to run after seeing the physio so might need to revisit this plan later depending on what she says. Saturday i'd like to do parkrun again but will see. Sunday's run is a maybe, heading towards Leinster at some stage.

Physio 1:00:00 [0]

Fun times at the physio. Both calves not in great shape but presuming this session will help them. Wasn't pleasant.

Leaving I bumped into a woman who was in next. She said "I hope you took a lot out of her?", I had to laugh at that comment. I replied in the affirmative!

Seefin

Checking the area ahead of event i'm planning there next month. Wasn't sure if i'd go today as planned due to the calf but felt ok this morning so went to Cork. Damp day so not pleasant in the forest.

Boring enough wandering around, jogged some of the trails but very slowly, no negative reaction so that's a positive. Wasn't in the mood to do much more than that.

Some more felling so will have to rethink my first version of courses, but have some ideas. I also wonder how walls on the map don't exist on the ground.

Saw a couple of hares and that was about it for excitement.

Didn't wear HR strap, knew effort was going to be low, so no point in wasting the battery.

Down the hill for parkrun.

Wasn't a good start as was maybe 200m or so down the hill when I realised i'd forgotten my barcode, so quickly ran home again for it. Upset the start of my warm up but rest of the warmup went to plan.

Killarney parkrun

Set the watch for 3.35 min/km this morning. Not a bad morning for running, chilly, but nice.

3.35
3.34
3.39
3.42
3.34 (not 1k and pace was 4.00)

Knew I was behind on the 3rd km and was working to get things back on track. Using forerunner today with virtual partner so easier to keep to target pace. But right calf started to hurt after around 3.5km I reckon and that was that. Cruised home from there. Not sure how bad it is, i've physio on Monday so that's reassuring, but will still have to go to Seefin tomorrow no matter how it feels in the morning.

I'm finding training frustrating, something is always wrong and has been for ages. Pain just moves around the legs. How am I supposed to train when it just hurts, not hurt from effort, but PAIN. Means I can't train when I want to or do the sessions I need to be doing, so why bother!!! Really getting fed up. Pissed off with running, I wasn't until this morning, but really annoying for something else to go wrong. How am I supposed to be motivated to achieve something when just a simple run pain free just doesn't happen.

The way i'm feeling today it seems about right that there's 666km on my adidas today.

Road 17:21 [2] 3.03 km (5:44 / km) +82m 5:03 / km
ahr:140 max:158 shoes: Adidas Supernova (2015)

Ended up walking the last couple of hundred metres, couldn't run anymore, calf in trouble.

Turbo Trainer 30:06 [2]
ahr:121 max:132 slept:7.49

Avg Cadence = 87rpm

HR data is missing for around 4 minutes. Cadence getting worse. Really was wondering what I was doing getting up at 630 this morning, it was nice in bed, warm and comfortable, why leave that to sit on the bike!!!

Wasn't too bad though once properly awake.

Turbo Trainer 47:24 [2]
ahr:128 max:137

Avg Cadence = 91rpm

Breaking Bad S01E06

These evening sessions have been going alright. Liking Breaking Bad so that helps.

Right knee a bit sore today at work, so more quad stretching needed, but calves improved overnight with the foam rolling.

Turbo Trainer 30:11 [2]
ahr:125 max:134 slept:7.32

Avg Cadence = 89rpm

Wondering how last week I was getting on the bike 10 minutes after getting up and this week it's around 13. Must figure that out.

Was definitely sleepy waking up but awake once exercising.

Caught up on last night's Big Bang Theory, good start to the day.

Calves, both of them sore this morning, right now possibly feeling worse than the left.

Trails/Road 41:45 [3] 9.0 km (4:38 / km) +75m 4:27 / km
ahr:150 max:163 weight:70kg shoes: Adidas Supernova (2015)

Cold again this evening and had a couple of hail showers while running. One benefit of hail is that it doesn't soak you!

Went low to start, some amount of debris brought in by the lake. It also has managed to improve the muddy section just after the footbridge, gravel left there by the lake.

Some of the path after that was slippy and around the hill after crossing the road.

Wasn't feeling too bad this evening, calves and Achilles mostly behaved along with quads not causing too much trouble. Felt comfortable enough running as a result. Plan was just to run and see it went, no target.

Lots of deer out and about.

Back via the abbey after avoiding it recently for fear of water but path dry. Big tree has fallen across it so had to duck under that.

Circuits starting back next week so will retire these runners after Saturday and use them for circuits, so will start using the black version of these runners next week.

Loving the new garmin connect sync feature for uploading, makes my life so much easier. New watch is helping too as my laptop is on its last legs although reckon the GPS is not good on the Vivoactive, distance is probably ok but the GPS track is off. Maybe I should try the Glonass but I'm not in Russia.

Turbo Trainer 30:07 [2]
ahr:131 max:144 slept:6.44

Avg Cadence = 90rpm

Cadence graph is very nice this morning. Consistent.

Caught up on Big Bang Theory. Remembered i'd this to watch so took up 2/3 of the session.

Tough getting up this morning, late to bed last night and then had trouble getting to sleep. But did get up.
5 PM

Road 44:41 [3] 10.09 km (4:26 / km) +77m 4:16 / km
ahr:150 max:164

Killarney

Cold this evening, only 3.5 degrees showing on the car. But was happy with layers i'd on, worked nicely. Didn't feel too hot or too cold.

Calves not feeling too bad which surprised me. Tight afterwards though. Noticed quads after around 30 minutes or so.

Also sleeve of jacket was messing with the watch screen, it's sensitive to the touch, so a couple of extra laps that I didn't want. Not that I wanted laps in the first place but still haven't turned off auto lap after park run last Saturday.

Physic booked for Monday evening, can't see that being a fun session.

Didn't need torch for the entire run, kept it off early on and only switched it on when I turned down the golf course road. Switched off for last km or too too once back into the land of streetlights.

Bit extra running at the end to bring the distance up to 10k.
Although not impressed with GPS track.

Turbo Trainer 30:10 [2]
ahr:129 max:144 slept:7.49

Avg Cadence = 88rpm

Bit surprised with the cadence, felt it would have been better, didn't think the session went any differently to other sessions. Did feel a bit tired starting off and cadence graph does show the first 10 minutes not being great. Was tired waking up, a lot more light than deep sleep last night.
12 PM

Note

I've updated my details.
5 PM

Trails 47:35 [3] 10.13 km (4:42 / km) +282m 4:07 / km
ahr:154 max:170 shoes: Inov X-Talon (Blue)

Cold this evening, some light in the sky too with clear skies but not much of a moon. Could have done with a moon this evening considering torch died around 600m from home but still on the trails. Think battery isn't lasting as long as it should anymore. Switched on backup and then after a minute switched back on torch to lower setting which got me home.

Legs feeling ok but calves tight afterwards. Right achilles not too bad.

Felt pace wasn't great early on but think once on the descent things went better. Up the road to start in the cold air wouldn't have been the easiest start for my lungs.

Plenty of deer out and about, their eyes shining in the beam of the torch.
8 PM

Note

Was thinking of some goals for 2016 earlier while running so best write them down.

Orienteering
JK - ?, not too pushed at the moment
IOC - most definitely a big target, all races
Leinster 3 day is a maybe, might consider Carrauntoohill as an alternative!
WOC Selection races - definitely
GGs Sprint Camp - would like to go
WOC - not a priority but if I get selected then i'll have to think about it
NAOC - could well happen

Running
Sub 16 5k before the Summer
2 years ago a 33 min 10k when 33 was an idea, so maybe a sub 35 since i'm now 35 (but hopefully better), not sure when
A race on the track, has been too long, no idea what distance or where but if there's an opportunity i'll take it

Mountain Running
See previous mention of Carrauntoohill, something to mull over
Mangerton Race, maybe, but even though the race was last August the memories of the post-race pain are still fresh

Cycling
Going to get an A4 licence so more racing definitely something I want to do, but no specific idea of which races yet, June/July i should be in good shape for racing on the bike
