Some easy warm up on the roads Over the Water in Cahersiveen. Legs feeling ok, some on my own, and then more with Donal. Strong headwind from the south.

Race was 10km and I ran 7.35km so that can only mean one thing, a DNF. Things were going fine until around the 5th lap of 11, right calf got tight but I kept going, got through lap 6 and just at the end of lap 7 I think at the bottom of the hill, BANG. Had to stop and retire. So that only left 7 finishers from a starting field of 8, with 7 of the 8 from RÃocht. Is that more depressing than my injury woes I wonder?
Seriously pissed off with my body, and had the depressing drive back from Cahersiveen to face afterwards. Calf sore for the afternoon. Iced it one back in Killarney and had the dinner eaten.
Up until the calf failure race was sort of going to plan. Tim went off on his own and there was a Kenmare/Iveragh lad, Cillian O'Donovan in 2nd. Then myself and Donal in 3rd. We started to gain on Cillian but just at the bottom of the hill on the 3rd/4th (not certain) my foot came out of the heel of my shoe, mud caught it. So had to stop and force the shoe properly back on and then try and chase Donal down on the hill. I was much stronger than him on the hills up until now but couldn't close the gap. So used some energy there. I did pass Cillian though on the lap after and had maybe 10-20m on him with a few laps left. I was confident in how I was feeling that I would have maintained 3rd, and 2nd would have been a possibility if it were not for the wardrobe malfunction. I wasn't racing at 100%, was running comfortably enough for most of it, running what was around me.
