Note

Easy week again due to IOC this weekend. Legs a small bit tired after yesterday. Was chatting to Colm after the race yesterday and he recommended magnesium to help my calf so went and got some of that yesterday evening. Will put that on this week and see what happens.

Think i'll keep to the bike though for the week with maybe a short run thrown in tomorrow.

Monday - Cycle
Tuesday - Run (short, c. 30 minutes)
Wednesday - Cycling
Thursday - Cycling (short, but could well rest)
Friday - Rest
Saturday - IOC Middle
Sunday - IOC Long

Cycling 1:29:05 [3] 45.28 km (1:58 / km) +530m 1:52 / km

Glenflesk-Barraduff-Anablaha-Glebe

Lumpy cycle. Check my avg speed at Anablaha somewhere and it was only 27.1, so worked to get that back up on the roller coaster between there and Glebe. Then the road back to Killarney was fast as the wind was now behind me. Had been a struggle at times before this. Was cold too into the wind. With the sun sometimes helping to warm me up.

Put gloves in my pocket starting off but had them on not long after the school.

Wasn't sure how long this spin would be, thought it would have been around the 50 mark but not too far off. On the drag out of Barraduff I was regretting route, and i'd less than 20km done at that stage. Kept going. Didn't feel too tired when I got home, but busied myself making rhubard crumble. Ended up making small ones in ramakins, made 5, ate 2, Mary had 1, so that leaves 2 for tonight with some rhubarb and crumble left to make more. Biggest mistake was having no custard in the house, will address that issue before dessert tomorrow.

Ross Castle

Made a mess of number 1. Followed the small track and ended up too far, came back too far, and then got it. Silly start. At least 1 minute shipped, but closer to 2 I suspect

Route between 2-3 not great, bit rougher to get across to the other path than I expected. Took a direct enough route out to the track leaving 4, but better to get out than stay in around here. Colm as faster than me by 2 seconds, hmmm. 7 I stayed on the path, QR a bit off here. Marsh was dry getting out from 7.

10 I got nicely but others missed it. Worked off the hill beyond it. Control was on shortest cane possible! 13 came up sooner than I expected.

Missed the small path going in to 19, but not really time lost, but some hesitations at the beach afterwards figuring things out. After 18 calf started to be felt. That was annoying me since it was fine up until then.

Route from 20-21 didn't work out so well. Got stuck in some green, those small paths are now overgrown.

Started out feeling like I had some speed in my legs, a good feeling to have, once I didn't have last week in Spain. Lungs struggled a bit at times. And then calf started to hurt so kept pace under control for last few controls.

Another UCC Day
1 more Saturday here

Slept better and feeling better for it! Off to spectate at a Strictly Come Dancing event this evening, my younger brother is taking part. More money he gets the more votes, he's trying to maximise converting money into votes.

Think I might go orienteering tomorrow, not necessarily terrain relevant but keeps the brain thinking of orienteering.

Not feeling great today anyways, woke up early so didn't get as much sleep as i'd have liked last night. But think I could be a bit run down too. So basically feeling a bit crap today.

On a more positive note the assignment/practical we got today to do is not what I was expecting, software project was mentioned so I thought it might involve creating software, in fact it's using the software which is a whole different story.

Going to head back to Kerry after the show on Saturday night. Hasn't made my plans for Sunday any clearer though.

Bit later than usual getting out but temperatures a balmy 15 degrees. Bit chilly after Espana last weekend.

Happy enough with how the legs were feeling. Could feel right glute a small bit early on but not later in the spin. Calf is feeling ok walking but not sure what it would be like running, probably not great.

Spotted a bike at around Lackabane on the way out so that motivated me to catch and pass him. Also a few bikes in front around Loretto Road so chased them down too, they weren't a difficult catch though.

Legs tired.

Spent the evening assembling a couple of bits from ikea. Elvis was very helpful, no screws lost by him.
