Orienteering race 48:50 [4] 9.28 km (5:16 / km) +81m 5:03 / km
25c shoes: Inov8 X-Talon (Yellow)

Muckross Abbey

Leg definitely feeling better today but not 100%. Was mostly ok running apart from sometimes on the roads it could be felt. No way was it hurting like it did yesterday. Controlled pace for this, didn't push 100%. Also achilles not perfect either.

Straightforward course on an area I run around a lot, so with a map in my hand it wasn't that difficult.

16 and 17 I lost a few seconds on, 16 just getting through some crap, but did miss 17. Definitely ended up too far and looks like I was too low for it when I cut across.

Took the right option to 19 as I felt the grass would be easier to run on than the rough path, local knowledge, and didn't fancy straight due to previous experiences in that area.

Leaving 21 I was initially skipping 22 for some reason, didn't see it, but copped myself on and picked up the control easily enough.

Not convinced 23 was in the right place. Went over to the other side of the wall, no control, dropped down along it, no sign, then turned around and saw it behind me under a bit of rock. Think it was very low and on the wrong side based on the descriptions. Although since descriptions said north side, that could have meant the lake.

Hit 25 at the same time as some lad in a KerryO top and shorts, but left him run off to the finish, I didn't need to race it.

Short jog to warm down. Makes up for not warming up I’m sure.

shoes: Brooks Ghost 9

Weather cold and the odd shower going to wasn’t pushed on cycling either outdoors or indoors again. On with the running shoes straight after breakfast but that wasn’t a problem.

Problem was the bruised leg. Hurt pretty much with ever step. Didn’t hurt as much on the uphills or on terrain.

Plenty of snow on Mangerton. Saw some in the grass here and there where I was running but sporadic.

Pretty muddy when I left the road. But grass and water later on cleaned running shoes.

On the way home I reckon the farmer spotted me in his field, gave him a wave from the forest track.

Watching this will surely do something for my Spanish?
I’ll have at least the basics like money and drugs.

Ok pedalling but not so ok at other times.

Decided against circuits so tried the bike for a bit. Same resistance but higher gear to make life easier. Was ok I think, leg not feeling too bad, although definitely not being close to 100%. Might try more of this for longer tomorrow.

Note
(injured)

Was hoping to get to circuits tomorrow but at this stage we'll have to see what things are like in the morning.

Bruise is starting to colour up nicely.

Tuesday Nov 21 #

Note
(injured)

Can get around fine but range of movement in the leg is restricted by pain once I raise the leg beyond a certain height.

Note
(injured)

Leg improved enough that I managed to drive home last night from Cork, left leg so only needed for the clutch. It's moving the knee is sore so foot was ok on the clutch.

When I got back to Killarney I was asked what was the last thing that was said before I left that morning, "Don't hurt yourself".
Also Mary asked where my set of crutches were. Had to think a minute and reckoned that they were in the attic. Very handy if i'd needed them!

Today it's still sore. Alright once moving but getting up and dressing myself took some manoeuvring. Nic big bump on my leg, lower quad. A red mark surrounded by a bruise. I'm assuming the red is from the contact.

Will take a few days to let it recover. Definitely nothing today and probably not tomorrow. Will see how things are on Wednesday with the hope of making circuits on Thursday.
