Note

Best come up with a pre Christmas plan.

Monday - Turbo
Tuesday - Run
Wednesday - Turbo
Thursday - Run
Friday - Rest (dentist after lunch but given it’s not something small I’ll take a break)
Saturday - Run
Sunday - Cycle

But we’ll see how that works out. Thinking about what days I’ll be running next week at the weekend.

*Update at 2100, no idea what the plan is now! Had to change dentist to Thursday as Mary’s scan brought forward to Friday, letter in the post when we got home. So we’ll see what I get to do Friday evening instead.

Narcos S01 E09

Happy enough to get through this and not feeling too bad doing it. Definitely on the tired side after the day travelling. Also not easy to start with unpacking the car, moving dental appointments, etc when we got home.

Volkspark Friedrichshain

2km each way to get there but not a bad spot for a run. Took longer than expected due to time lost crossing big roads on the way there and back. Stopped watch for them.

I did some research before I left and had an Orienteering map of the park with a sprint course. So ran that. Map very low quality but paths were legible.

Wasn’t too worried about routes, just wanted to run and see as much as possible. Did miss a path at the top of the 2nd hill and had no idea where I was at the next junction. So to relocate I ran up to the top which was the planned detour anyways to see if there was a view, there wasn’t.

At the finish I did an extra loop of the part of the park the course didn’t visit, spotting the beach volleyball areas, not the time of year for it, and then cut back across for the journey home.

Started out dry but started to snow in the park. Heavy enough but nice for a change of weather. Binned map on the way back as was disintegrating.

Touristing then for the rest of the day plus another market or two.

Looks like GPS hadn’t kicked in when for this jog from train station to the event.

Had a look around the Pergamon Museum to start the day off.

KJJOL 2017
Berlin
Karow

Handy being able to plan the first control in the start box. Top of the map could be seen!

The course was essentially in 3 parts.

Part 1 Sprint
Ran this fine, straightforward enough around a small park of grass and paths. Helped get into the 1:2500 scale.

Part 2 Description Orienteering
For this part there were circles on the map but no lines or numbers. You’d to decide which the next control was based on the description. Started it ok but mistake at the earthbank, there were 2 and hadn’t seen the other. The one I went to was a later control. Also made a mistake on inside wall corner, but not as big. Interesting concept.

Part 3 - Line O
This went ok, a bit more park and some more of the school. Lots of empty parts of the course and as the controls were small i was keeping an eye on the trees. Wasn’t counting how many I punched but got them all I think. One extra control near the line but knew it was off it.

Made a simple enough area usable.

Jog back to the train station. Again like earlier this was a warm down after running.

Not sure how much people sitting next to me appreciated my post run smell?

Note
(rest day)

Sightseeing around Berlin and a couple of Christmas markets toured.

Just looking at the directions for tomorrow, and the entrance to the assembly area is on a street called Achillesstraße. The irony!!!

Note
(rest day)

Ended up being a stressful drive to the airport with a warning sign before Kildare saying 1 lane blocked due to an accident after junction 12, Newbridge. Reckoned 1 lane would be ok, it wasn’t that busy. But motorway ended up being a car park from before the merge with the M9. Lost 30 minutes at the most but stressful. No sign of any cars but crash barrier on left hand side had taken a dent!

Then on to Berlin for the weekend.

Narcos S1 E8

Ended up with narcos after realising that GOT would be over an hour. Wasn’t in the mood for the few extra minutes as got going a bit later than intended.

Legs feeling a bit better than yesterday’s run. Now for a couple of days rest.

Saturday looks like a fun little event, 1:2500 with a mix of formats,

Golf Course & Knockreer

Not a bad evening for a run but didn't enjoy it so much, body felt sluggish despite the easy pace. Think maybe the weekends efforts followed by physio has left the legs a bit on the tired side.

Some aches during the run but nothing too distracting.

Happy enough I suppose in the end with the distance, didn't go for the extras to bring it over 10km.
