Note
(rest day)

Calves a bit tight today but not the reason for the rest day. Felt tired last night and not 100% and still a bit off today so taking a break to ensure I’m ok for the weekend.

CorkO Christmas Event 2017
Ballincollig Regional Park

This year the theme was snooker.

Could have got a few more points. Completed the course but potted a couple of greens with some reds that I could have changed for pink. Avoiding the black on the transition for the pink would have guaranteed all west controls with the pink. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

This type of score course was definitely a challenging one in terms of strategy. I adopted a strategy to allow me a few options to save time near the end but I set aside too much time to clear the colours to finish.

Good fun.

Thinking it’s too cold to cycle outside. Have left ankle tape on in case I decide to find some snow to run in, before breakfast would probably maximise the day.

Collecting 6 controls.

Note
(rest day)

Despite spending all afternoon and evening on the couch I forgot to spell out a training plan for the week.

Monday - Run (Goal Mile)
Tuesday - Rest (walk dog if it’s dry!)
Wednesday - Orienteering (CorkO event)
Thursday - Bike
Friday - Bike
Saturday - Orienteering (Carlingford training day 1)
Sunday - Orienteering (Carlingford training day 2)

Not sure what weather forecast is like so the 2 bike sessions could end up indoors.

Track warm up/down 13:23 [2] 2.25 km (5:57 / km) +2m 5:56 / km
ahr:125 max:151 shoes: Brooks Ghost 9

A few laps of the track, some with my dad, as a warm up. Raining and also a lot of water in lane 1.

Track race 5:16 [5] 1.77 km (2:59 / km)

Goal Mile 2017

Didn’t take laps or have much of a plan. Decent Leevale lad in my go so followed him for 200 and then for 400 but gap widening as the mile went on.

Definitely working hard for the 3rd lap and then gave what I’d left for the last lap. Similar time to 2 years ago so not too bad all things considered. Definitely would benefit from speed work but don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Road 32:03 [2] 5.76 km (5:34 / km) +32m 5:25 / km

Bishopstown

A couple of laps with my dad after a solo one while he finished his mile. Then I headed off after he finished for some more running. No plan, followed the river. Eventually came out on the Curraheen Road near the farm, turned left, and then down Rossa Avenue to get back to CIT.

Left calf not too pleased I think nearing the end.

Torc

Drive myself bananas both before and after this run. Knew watch needed a charge after this run but no idea where the charger was for it. Searched high and low for it but had no clue where it could have been. Even went through the bin! Eventually found it stuck down the couch. Felt better dor finding it.

Out before breakfast and a bit on the windy side, otherwise I might have chances Torc but was fine in the forest. Got some climbing done, wanted to do some. Felt fine but suppose wasn’t killing myself. Long descent back to the car.

Molls Gap

Definitely out too soon after breakfast for a spin like this, the efforts on the hills were not pleasant on my stomach. Had visions of seeing my breakfast again but thankfully it didn't come close in the end to that.

Time on Ladies View is early season standard, so have clearly gone backwards in terms of being able to go up hill. Had HR data today for the first time in a long time so kept an eye on it using it as something to go off.

Saw a bike near Molls, it had a 3 minute head start. So that was definitely a target for the return and helped with the last few hundred metres. Was tough enough after Ladies View too as there was a headwind.

Caught the bike along with 2 more at Galweys Bridge. So after passing them it was motivation to keep on going. Time definitely back a bit but effort was there nonetheless.

Lap of Muckross Lake

Nice afternoon for a run, warm and dry. Quiet enough while away from the busier parts of the park. Santa still having visitors in the schoolhouse though.

HR for this session, got a new strap when ordering new Garmin. Happy to see the HR is what I’d expect it to be. New watch is a nice size too. Just still need to figure out the buttons a bit.
